The Slavonia and Podravina Wine and Delicacies Festival, held this September, consists of a series of carefully organized events that will provide wine lovers with a unique experience. The first in the series is the Wine Cabaret, planned for Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the Klopotec Tourist Information Center on Kladarski Breg in Bilogora. This location was not chosen by chance – its historical value and authentic ambiance make it the perfect stage for the festival's start. Kladarski Breg, known for its vineyards and natural beauty, will further enrich the experience for all visitors.

Continuation of the festival
After the Wine Cabaret, the festival continues with the Papuk Wine Voyage, which will take place on September 13 at the Geo-info Center in Voćin. This event is not just an opportunity for wine tasting, but also for getting acquainted with the rich geological history of Papuk. Voćin, as one of the most important geological sites in Croatia, offers a unique opportunity to combine culture, history, and wine into an unforgettable experience.

Next on the schedule is the event Tamburas and Wine in Aristocratic Style, which will take place on September 14 at the Visitor Center – Janković Castle in Suhopolje. This historic castle, restored with special attention to detail, will provide an authentic atmosphere where Slavonian tamburitza music will perfectly blend with the rich flavors of wines from the region.

Wine Party and Wine Marathon
The Wine Party in the Aristocratic Park, planned for September 20, will be held at the Dravska Priča Visitor Center in Noskovci. This event will offer visitors not only the opportunity to enjoy premium wines but also the possibility to explore the natural beauty and cultural heritage of this area. Dravska Priča is an ideal location for such an event, as it combines the richness of the natural environment with the cultural heritage of Slavonia.

The Wine Marathon Wine&Run, which will be held on September 21 in Orahovica, presents a special challenge for all those who want to combine a love of wine and physical activity. This marathon, which leads participants through the picturesque vineyards of Orahovica, is a unique opportunity to enjoy nature while simultaneously discovering the flavors of local wines.

Final event of the festival
The festival will culminate with the Virovitica Wine & Art event, which will take place on September 28 in the City Park in front of Pejačević Castle. This event combines art and wine in a special way, offering visitors not only a tasting of the best wines of the region but also the enjoyment of various artistic installations and performances. Pejačević Castle, as a symbol of Virovitica, will provide the perfect ambiance for the conclusion of this year's festival.

Partnerships and collaboration
The success of the Slavonia and Podravina Wine and Delicacies Festival is the result of close collaboration between the organizers and local communities. Martina Jakelić, director of the Virovitica-Podravina County Tourist Board, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in the development of the festival. "We started with great caution during the pandemic, wanting to make our county recognizable on the wine map of Croatia. The very first year exceeded all our expectations. Since then, September has become synonymous with wine events in our county.

This fourth edition of the festival has been expanded to highlight not only wine but also the importance of top gastronomic delicacies from Slavonia and Podravina. In addition to us from the tourist board, the festival organizers include local tourist boards of the cities of Virovitica and Orahovica, the municipalities of Pitomača and Suhopolje, the Vrata Papuka area, as well as the Public Institution for the Management of Protected Parts of Nature and the Ecological Network of Virovitica-Podravina County. I thank them for their successful cooperation so far," said Jakelić.

The registration fee for each event is €22.00 per person. Given the limited number of places, it is recommended to secure a ticket in time through the official website of the Virovitica-Podravina County Tourist Board.

Tourism desk

Our Travel Desk was born out of a long-standing passion for travel, discovering new places, and serious journalism. Behind every article stand people who have been living tourism for decades – as travelers, tourism workers, guides, hosts, editors, and reporters. For more than thirty years, destinations, seasonal trends, infrastructure development, changes in travelers’ habits, and everything that turns a trip into an experience – and not just a ticket and an accommodation reservation – have been closely followed. These experiences are transformed into articles conceived as a companion to the reader: honest, informed, and always on the traveler’s side.

At the Travel Desk, we write from the perspective of someone who has truly walked the cobblestones of old towns, taken local buses, waited for the ferry in peak season, and searched for a hidden café in a small alley far from the postcards. Every destination is observed from multiple angles – how travelers experience it, what the locals say about it, what stories are hidden in museums and monuments, but also what the real quality of accommodation, beaches, transport links, and amenities is. Instead of generic descriptions, the focus is on concrete advice, real impressions, and details that are hard to find in official brochures.

Special attention is given to conversations with restaurateurs, private accommodation hosts, local guides, tourism workers, and people who make a living from travelers, as well as those who are only just trying to develop lesser-known destinations. Through such conversations, stories arise that do not show only the most famous attractions but also the rhythm of everyday life, habits, local cuisine, customs, and small rituals that make every place unique. The Travel Desk strives to record this layer of reality and convey it in articles that connect facts with emotion.

The content does not stop at classic travelogues. It also covers topics such as sustainable tourism, off-season travel, safety on the road, responsible behavior towards the local community and nature, as well as practical aspects like public transport, prices, recommended neighborhoods to stay in, and getting your bearings on the ground. Every article goes through a phase of research, fact-checking, and editing to ensure that the information is accurate, clear, and applicable in real situations – from a short weekend trip to a longer stay in a country or city.

The goal of the Travel Desk is that, after reading an article, the reader feels as if they have spoken to someone who has already been there, tried everything, and is now honestly sharing what is worth seeing, what to skip, and where those moments are hidden that turn a trip into a memory. That is why every new story is built slowly and carefully, with respect for the place it is about and for the people who will choose their next destination based on these words.
