At the prestigious Congress of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) 2025, which has established itself as a central gathering place for the world's leading experts in the field of cardiovascular health, the tech giant HUAWEI presented its latest achievements. The focus of the presentation was on significant upgrades to the revolutionary smartwatch HUAWEI WATCH D2, whose official global launch is eagerly awaited on September 19, 2025, in Paris, alongside the premiere of the new Watch GT 6 series.

This year's congress, held under the significant theme "Cardiology without borders," served as an ideal platform to demonstrate how cutting-edge technology can break down barriers in personal health monitoring. The upgraded HUAWEI WATCH D2 combines advanced sensors and intelligent algorithms for extremely precise blood pressure monitoring and arrhythmia detection, providing users with an unprecedented level of insight into their own body's condition from the comfort of their home.

Proactive health care in the era of the "silent killer"

High blood pressure, often called the 'silent killer', is a global health threat affecting hundreds of millions of people, many of whom are unaware of the risk they are exposed to. It is estimated that as many as 245 million people live with this condition, and a worrying fact is that the level of awareness of one's own diagnosis is just over 50 percent. In this context, proactive management and regular monitoring become key tools in the prevention of serious cardiovascular diseases. That is precisely why Huawei has invested significant resources in the further improvement of the Watch D2 smartwatch, which has recently secured two new, extremely important certifications, further confirming its excellence and reliability in the domain of medical measurements.

Validation by leading medical authorities further strengthens the position of this device. George Stergiou, the distinguished president of the STRIDE BP organization and the International Society of Hypertension, publicly praised the HUAWEI WATCH D2, emphasizing that the device has been rigorously tested and confirmed in accordance with the universal AAMI ESH ISO standard. He particularly highlighted its capability for 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, which includes measurements during sleep and daily activities, thus providing a complete picture of the user's condition. At the heart of the watch is the advanced TruSense technology, which, in addition to blood pressure, also measures blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) with high precision, monitors heart rate, analyzes sleep quality and stress levels, consolidating all key vital signs into one elegant and wearable device.

The undisputed leader in the wearables market

Huawei's dominance in the global wearables market is no coincidence. According to data from the analytical firm IDC for the first quarter of 2025, Huawei holds an impressive 21.9% market share, while recording an incredible year-on-year growth of 42.4%. This success is the result of a synergy of precision, sophisticated design, and the dedicated work of specialized research and development centers located in Germany, Sweden, India, and China. This continuous growth confirms the company's ability to anticipate user needs and develop innovative health technologies that are simultaneously functional, reliable, and aesthetically appealing to a global audience.

At the ESC 2025 congress, the demonstration of the Watch 5 model's capabilities, equipped with the innovative X-TAP technology, also attracted attention. This technology demonstrates the future of rapid health check-ups, allowing users to measure as many as 11 different health indicators in just one minute, simply by touching the designated sensor with a fingertip. One of the impressive aspects is the ability to obtain precise data on blood oxygen saturation in just ten seconds.

New standards in blood pressure monitoring

The Huawei Watch D2 sets a completely new standard in the wearables industry, positioning itself as the world's first smartwatch to simultaneously receive NMPA Class II medical device registration in China and the prestigious European CE MDR certification for ambulatory wrist-based blood pressure monitoring. These certifications are not just a formality; they represent a guarantee of medical-grade precision and reliability, thereby elevating personal health management to a higher level of safety and utility.

The measurement system, based on the aforementioned TruSense technology, offers dual functionality. Users can perform one-time measurements on demand, at any time, but the real innovation lies in the possibility of automatic 24-hour monitoring. The intelligent system is designed to adapt to the natural circadian rhythms of the human body. Measurements are automatically taken at optimal time intervals, for example, in the morning around 8 a.m., in the afternoon around 4 p.m., and during the night. This way, users receive consistent and reliable data on their blood pressure fluctuations, regardless of whether they are working, resting, or sleeping, all without any disruption to their lifestyle.

Certified system for arrhythmia detection

One of the most significant new features of the upgraded Watch D2 is the certified pulse wave arrhythmia analysis. This advanced function enables extremely reliable and continuous monitoring of irregularities in the heart rhythm, with a special emphasis on the early detection of potentially dangerous conditions such as atrial fibrillation. The detection system not only provides real-time alerts to the user when it records an irregularity but also offers long-term trend analysis, which can be invaluable to doctors in diagnosing and monitoring therapy. This function, which supplements but does not replace professional medical examinations, is now available on all leading operating systems – iOS, Android, and HarmonyOS. Its global availability is also expanding, with recent approval in six new markets, including Saudi Arabia and Australia, bringing the total number of regions where it is available to 32.

Sophisticated aesthetics and improved comfort

Although the primary focus is on medical precision and advanced health functions, Huawei has not neglected the aesthetic component. Aware that a smartwatch is also a fashion accessory, the designers have expanded the color palette. In addition to the existing elegant black and white variants, a new, sophisticated dark blue color that exudes refinement is now available. The new model retains its signature lightness and comfort, and engineers have managed to reduce the weight by an additional ten grams compared to previous generations. Special attention has also been paid to the strap, which now comes with a 26-millimeter one-piece design and a quick-release mechanism, perfectly combining functionality with comfort for all-day wear. The new blue variant will be available globally from September 19, 2025.

This autumn at Huawei also brings a range of other technological treats. At the beginning of September, the very affordable tablet HUAWEI MatePad 11.5 with its innovative PaperMatte display, which eliminates glare and provides a paper-like writing experience, arrived on our market, making it ideal for working outdoors, drawing, or taking notes. In the middle of the month, specifically on the mentioned date of September 19 in Paris, the new generation of smartwatches, the Watch GT 6 series, will be presented, bringing significant improvements in tracking outdoor sports activities. Shortly thereafter, new models of wireless headphones will also arrive on the market, thus rounding out the rich autumn offer of innovative devices.

Science & tech desk

Our Science and Technology Editorial Desk was born from a long-standing passion for exploring, interpreting, and bringing complex topics closer to everyday readers. It is written by employees and volunteers who have followed the development of science and technological innovation for decades, from laboratory discoveries to solutions that change daily life. Although we write in the plural, every article is authored by a real person with extensive editorial and journalistic experience, and deep respect for facts and verifiable information.

Our editorial team bases its work on the belief that science is strongest when it is accessible to everyone. That is why we strive for clarity, precision, and readability, without oversimplifying in a way that would compromise the quality of the content. We often spend hours studying research papers, technical documents, and expert sources in order to present each topic in a way that will interest rather than burden the reader. In every article, we aim to connect scientific insights with real life, showing how ideas from research centres, universities, and technology labs shape the world around us.

Our long experience in journalism allows us to recognize what is truly important for the reader, whether it is progress in artificial intelligence, medical breakthroughs, energy solutions, space missions, or devices that enter our everyday lives before we even imagine their possibilities. Our view of technology is not purely technical; we are also interested in the human stories behind major advances – researchers who spend years completing projects, engineers who turn ideas into functional systems, and visionaries who push the boundaries of what is possible.

A strong sense of responsibility guides our work as well. We want readers to trust the information we provide, so we verify sources, compare data, and avoid rushing to publish when something is not fully clear. Trust is built more slowly than news is written, but we believe that only such journalism has lasting value.

To us, technology is more than devices, and science is more than theory. These are fields that drive progress, shape society, and create new opportunities for everyone who wants to understand how the world works today and where it is heading tomorrow. That is why we approach every topic with seriousness but also with curiosity, because curiosity opens the door to the best stories.

Our mission is to bring readers closer to a world that is changing faster than ever before, with the conviction that quality journalism can be a bridge between experts, innovators, and all those who want to understand what happens behind the headlines. In this we see our true task: to transform the complex into the understandable, the distant into the familiar, and the unknown into the inspiring.
