New success for Croatian tourism: the only campsite in Split awarded the prestigious ACSI award in the increasingly important category

Camp Stobreč Split is the only campsite in the wider Split area and the best campsite in central and southern Dalmatia.

SPLIT, May 29, 2024 - Camp Stobreč Split achieved a new international success at the beginning of May by winning the prestigious ACSI award for the best dog-friendly campsite in Croatia.

ACSI is a leading European camping organization that has been publishing camping guides across Europe for 60 years. The organization's website provides information on more than nine thousand campsites from 33 different countries.

The ACSI awards were held for the first time in 2022 and quickly became an important event on the calendar of European campsites. That year, Camp Stobreč Split received the award for the best campsite location in Croatia. The awards are given through public voting in 11 different categories, and only verified campers from all over Europe can vote. Voting for this year's competition was possible from September 2023 to January 2024, and it is worth noting that the ACSI site records more than 60 million views annually.

In 2024, a total of 120 ACSI awards were given, including ten winners from Croatia, including the award for the best campsite. The only award winner in the central and southern Dalmatia area is Camp Stobreč Split, which can boast the title of the best dog-friendly campsite in Croatia.

The manager of Camp Stobreč Split, Ivica Tafra, expressed pride in this award: “First of all, I would like to thank our dedicated team of people who have created a family atmosphere in the camp that has become our second home. For years, we have been following European and global trends, investing, enriching content, and raising the overall level of quality. Our guests recognize this. This award makes me especially happy because it is backed by campers who travel, explore destinations, and appreciate all the amenities they encounter. There is no greater recognition than one that comes directly from the guests”.

Tafra also emphasized the importance of the category in which Camp Stobreč Split won the award: “Campers are a special group of people who camp because they love freedom and contact with nature. Infrastructure for pets is crucial for any camp, and the proportion of guests who come with pets is growing. We love pets, especially dogs, and I am proud that campers have recognized this”.

Camp Stobreč Split is the only camp in the wider Split area. It recently received recognition from ADAC, which included it among the best European campsites with the title Superplatz. Only 190 European campsites hold this title.

The camp covers five hectares, has 55 mobile homes (two adapted for people with disabilities) and 208 pitches with electricity, water, and drainage, and 52 camping spots. The capacity is 1100 guests, and last year more than 148 thousand overnight stays were recorded. During a multi-year horticultural process, more than 1000 olive trees were planted in the camp, making it a unique Croatian site with the highest concentration of plants and trees per square meter on an area of five hectares. Camp Stobreč Split has met all the conditions and earned the prestigious Ecocamping certificate, confirming its philosophy of environmental protection, sustainable tourism, and nature conservation.

In addition to natural beauty, the camp also offers numerous amenities such as a wellness and spa center with three outdoor pools, a shop, a restaurant, sports fields, a diving club, a souvenir shop, a children's center, a massage center, a fitness room, as well as scooters and facilities for sea activities.

Tourism desk

Our Travel Desk was born out of a long-standing passion for travel, discovering new places, and serious journalism. Behind every article stand people who have been living tourism for decades – as travelers, tourism workers, guides, hosts, editors, and reporters. For more than thirty years, destinations, seasonal trends, infrastructure development, changes in travelers’ habits, and everything that turns a trip into an experience – and not just a ticket and an accommodation reservation – have been closely followed. These experiences are transformed into articles conceived as a companion to the reader: honest, informed, and always on the traveler’s side.

At the Travel Desk, we write from the perspective of someone who has truly walked the cobblestones of old towns, taken local buses, waited for the ferry in peak season, and searched for a hidden café in a small alley far from the postcards. Every destination is observed from multiple angles – how travelers experience it, what the locals say about it, what stories are hidden in museums and monuments, but also what the real quality of accommodation, beaches, transport links, and amenities is. Instead of generic descriptions, the focus is on concrete advice, real impressions, and details that are hard to find in official brochures.

Special attention is given to conversations with restaurateurs, private accommodation hosts, local guides, tourism workers, and people who make a living from travelers, as well as those who are only just trying to develop lesser-known destinations. Through such conversations, stories arise that do not show only the most famous attractions but also the rhythm of everyday life, habits, local cuisine, customs, and small rituals that make every place unique. The Travel Desk strives to record this layer of reality and convey it in articles that connect facts with emotion.

The content does not stop at classic travelogues. It also covers topics such as sustainable tourism, off-season travel, safety on the road, responsible behavior towards the local community and nature, as well as practical aspects like public transport, prices, recommended neighborhoods to stay in, and getting your bearings on the ground. Every article goes through a phase of research, fact-checking, and editing to ensure that the information is accurate, clear, and applicable in real situations – from a short weekend trip to a longer stay in a country or city.

The goal of the Travel Desk is that, after reading an article, the reader feels as if they have spoken to someone who has already been there, tried everything, and is now honestly sharing what is worth seeing, what to skip, and where those moments are hidden that turn a trip into a memory. That is why every new story is built slowly and carefully, with respect for the place it is about and for the people who will choose their next destination based on these words.
