An impressive Heritage & Resort hotel Monumenti has opened in the tourist offer of Pula, worth as much as 85 million euros, which represents a significant breakthrough for Croatian tourism. Officially opened on June 7, 2025, this five-star luxury resort is located on the St. Katarina peninsula and is already profiling itself as one of the most important new destinations in the region, combining historical heritage and modern luxury in a unique setting.

Ten years of development and investment on the Pula peninsula

The project behind the Monumenti hotel was developed by the company Kermas Istra d.o.o. through almost a decade of work, divided into two key phases. The first included the construction of the Polesana nautical marina with a capacity of 400 berths, while the second phase involved the restoration of protected Austro-Hungarian military facilities, within which the hotel is located, as well as the construction of a completely new part of the resort.

Today, this resort represents a complete tourist unit with its own beaches, marina complex, pools, congress facilities, hotel accommodation, and supporting infrastructure, significantly raising the standard of tourist offerings in Croatia.

A grand start and high expectations

Although the official opening of the Monumenti hotel is announced for September 2025, an exclusive event has already been held for business partners, friends, and experts from the tourism industry. At that glamorous reception, the project was presented by its initiator, Danko Končar, expressing confidence that the resort will soon become one of the leading luxury hotels in Europe.

Končar emphasized that this complex is the result of a 50-year concession granted to the company by the Republic of Croatia, and that investments after the expiration of that period will be returned to the state. He pointed out that from what was once a neglected area, a new tourist gem was created that employs almost a hundred people from the local community and strategically positions Istria and Croatia on the world tourism map.

"This is not just a hotel; this is a real resort that offers guests the largest space per person in Croatia, contributing to incomparable comfort and top-notch user experience. Our ambition is to build a global story of excellence, and I believe we have the potential to achieve that," said Končar, announcing the spectacular opening in September.

Congress center and panoramic views

One of the special features of the Monumenti hotel is its congress center, which will be ready to accommodate up to 400 participants from autumn, thereby further strengthening the business tourism offer in the region. The hotel rooms are located in renovated Austro-Hungarian barracks buildings, each with a sea view – either looking towards the center of Pula and surrounding beaches or towards the Brijuni National Park.

The hotel is divided into two main units: heritage, which are renovated historical buildings, and deluxe – a modern wing with a new building, glass facades, and luxury amenities. It has a total of 58 rooms of about 33 square meters in the heritage part, while the deluxe wing offers 40 rooms and eight apartments ranging from 70 to 120 square meters.

Design reflecting the rich history of Pula

The hotel interior is carefully designed to evoke the historical heritage of Pula, especially the military and aviation tradition of this area. The former Austrian officers' garden has been transformed into a green oasis with fountains, gazebos, and flowers, becoming a favorite place for cocktail gatherings and one of the most attractive places for weddings and other occasions in Croatia.

The renovated buildings also house conference halls with a bar and meeting rooms, and the decoration is subtle, in pastel tones, with details that, through photographs and antiques, transmit the spirit of past times, creating at the same time a relaxing and sophisticated atmosphere.

Wellness, gastronomy, and beach within reach

The resort also has a special wellness wing with an indoor heated pool, saunas, jacuzzi, and fitness center, providing guests with top-level rest and relaxation. The central restaurant is equipped with the most modern kitchen technology, and the menu emphasizes local Istrian specialties and tradition, further enriching the gastronomic experience.

Additionally, guests have access to a private beach of about 1500 square meters, with numerous amenities and a sunbathing area, making this location an ideal destination for luxury holidays on the Adriatic.

Pula accommodation is known for its history, natural beauty, and now also for the new resort that promises to raise the standard of tourist offerings to an even higher level, making this destination an indispensable point on the map of travelers from all over the world.

Tourism desk

Our Travel Desk was born out of a long-standing passion for travel, discovering new places, and serious journalism. Behind every article stand people who have been living tourism for decades – as travelers, tourism workers, guides, hosts, editors, and reporters. For more than thirty years, destinations, seasonal trends, infrastructure development, changes in travelers’ habits, and everything that turns a trip into an experience – and not just a ticket and an accommodation reservation – have been closely followed. These experiences are transformed into articles conceived as a companion to the reader: honest, informed, and always on the traveler’s side.

At the Travel Desk, we write from the perspective of someone who has truly walked the cobblestones of old towns, taken local buses, waited for the ferry in peak season, and searched for a hidden café in a small alley far from the postcards. Every destination is observed from multiple angles – how travelers experience it, what the locals say about it, what stories are hidden in museums and monuments, but also what the real quality of accommodation, beaches, transport links, and amenities is. Instead of generic descriptions, the focus is on concrete advice, real impressions, and details that are hard to find in official brochures.

Special attention is given to conversations with restaurateurs, private accommodation hosts, local guides, tourism workers, and people who make a living from travelers, as well as those who are only just trying to develop lesser-known destinations. Through such conversations, stories arise that do not show only the most famous attractions but also the rhythm of everyday life, habits, local cuisine, customs, and small rituals that make every place unique. The Travel Desk strives to record this layer of reality and convey it in articles that connect facts with emotion.

The content does not stop at classic travelogues. It also covers topics such as sustainable tourism, off-season travel, safety on the road, responsible behavior towards the local community and nature, as well as practical aspects like public transport, prices, recommended neighborhoods to stay in, and getting your bearings on the ground. Every article goes through a phase of research, fact-checking, and editing to ensure that the information is accurate, clear, and applicable in real situations – from a short weekend trip to a longer stay in a country or city.

The goal of the Travel Desk is that, after reading an article, the reader feels as if they have spoken to someone who has already been there, tried everything, and is now honestly sharing what is worth seeing, what to skip, and where those moments are hidden that turn a trip into a memory. That is why every new story is built slowly and carefully, with respect for the place it is about and for the people who will choose their next destination based on these words.
