In Zagreb, on March 5, 2025, contracts for the marketing promotion of key national events that will mark the tourist year were ceremoniously handed over. This initiative, launched in cooperation between the Croatian Tourist Board and the Ministry of Tourism, aims to further promote and enhance recognizable cultural and entertainment events that attract both domestic and international visitors.
Among the numerous awarded events, RetrOpatija, one of the most original festivals on the coast, particularly stood out, as it brings back the spirit of past decades to the heart of Kvarner every year. Thanks to its authenticity and unique concept, RetrOpatija also received significant financial support this year in the amount of 20 thousand euros, which will enable an even more spectacular program in 2025.
Festival of Nostalgia and Top Entertainment
RetrOpatija is not just another festival – it is a time machine that takes visitors back to the golden eras of music, fashion, and style. The event brings together retro culture enthusiasts from all corners of the world, combining the energy of past decades with modern tourist trends. This year, the festival will take place from June 26 to 28, and the organizers have prepared a series of spectacular events at various locations across the city.
The streets of Opatija become a grand stage where live concerts, dance workshops, themed fashion shows, and attractive vintage exhibitions alternate. Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the sounds of rock'n'roll, swing, disco, and funk, while professional dancers revive the movements of past eras. Authentic costumes, retro hairstyles, and impeccable aesthetics contribute to a unique atmosphere that brings visitors back year after year.
Opatija Riviera – Tradition and Luxury
RetrOpatija is just one of the reasons why Opatija remains at the top of the Adriatic tourist offer. The Opatija Riviera, located at the foot of Učka Mountain, has been attracting tourists in search of luxury, relaxation, and cultural events for decades. Known for its rich history and sophistication, Opatija offers a blend of top-notch accommodation, excellent gastronomy, and beautiful nature.
One of the city's trademarks is undoubtedly Lungomare, the legendary promenade that stretches for kilometers along the sea, offering a spectacular view of the Kvarner islands. This path is not just a tourist attraction but also part of the city's identity, linking its past and present. Along Lungomare, there are numerous historical villas, hotels, and parks that create an unparalleled impression of luxury and elegance.
Tourist Boards Join Forces
In addition to individual promotion of events, an important segment of tourism development in the region is the cooperation of tourist boards. At the same event in Zagreb, contracts were signed for the project-based unification of tourist boards, enabling the joint development and promotion of the region as a unique destination. Significant funds have been allocated to the tourist boards of the Opatija Riviera for the project "Opatija Riviera – the Mediterranean Point for All", which will further enhance the tourist offer and attract visitors throughout the year.
The development plan includes improving infrastructure, expanding cultural and entertainment content, and strengthening international promotion. Through the synergy of various cities and towns along the Riviera, the goal is to create not only a seasonal but also a year-round destination that will attract tourists of various interests – from nature and sports enthusiasts to history and gastronomy lovers.
Culture, Gastronomy, and Sustainable Tourism
The Opatija Riviera is not just synonymous with luxury and entertainment, but also with top-tier gastronomy. Many restaurants in the region pride themselves on native dishes prepared from fresh local ingredients, such as Kvarner shrimps, Mediterranean spices, and domestic olive oils. The gastronomic offer of the Riviera is constantly evolving, combining tradition with modern culinary trends.
In addition to gastronomy, the region is making great efforts in developing sustainable tourism. The goal is to preserve natural beauty and cultural heritage while ensuring a quality experience for visitors. Eco-friendly hotels, initiatives to reduce waste, and the promotion of sustainable forms of transport are just some of the steps being taken to ensure that the Opatija Riviera remains one of the leading destinations on the Adriatic.
A New Dimension of Tourism
RetrOpatija and similar events represent a key part of the strategy for tourism development in Kvarner. Their significance goes beyond mere entertainment – they contribute to branding the destination, increasing recognizability, and strengthening the emotional connection of visitors with the region. The blend of historical heritage, modern organization, and innovative approaches makes the Opatija Riviera one of the most attractive destinations in the Mediterranean.
As preparations for the upcoming edition of RetrOpatija intensify, expectations are higher than ever. The organizers are announcing new surprises, a richer program, and an even more intense experience for all visitors. Opatija will, at least for a few days, once again become the center of retro culture and an unmissable destination for all those who wish to experience the spirit of past times in a modern setting.
