In Zagreb, in the morning hours of October 2nd, an incident occurred that once again raised the question of traffic safety and driver responsibility. Namely, a 62-year-old driver was operating a personal vehicle with Zagreb license plates, while under the influence of alcohol with a high concentration of 3.29 g/kg. This alarming case took place on Latinovac Road, where the driver, after reaching house number 36, turned left towards the west and then inexplicably stopped.

After a brief pause, the driver began to reverse, turning right towards the northeast. At that moment, without paying attention to the surroundings and the direction of travel of his vehicle, he hit a metal yard fence with the rear part of the vehicle. This incident further highlighted the issue of driving under the influence of alcohol, which has serious consequences for the safety of all traffic participants.

The police soon arrived at the scene of the incident and determined that the driver had previously had his driving license revoked. Additionally, he was under a protective measure prohibiting him from operating motor vehicles. This measure was not surprising given his history, as the driver was a repeat offender, indicating the need for stricter measures and penalties for drivers who repeatedly commit serious traffic violations.

According to the Traffic Safety Act, the driver had, in addition to the revocation of his driving license, temporarily had his vehicle confiscated. This case raises concerns among citizens, especially in light of recent police actions aimed at reducing the number of drivers under the influence of alcohol. Over the weekend, the Zagreb police recorded a significant number of violations, including driving under the influence of alcohol, further emphasizing the importance of implementing traffic safety measures.

The driver was placed in a special police unit until the effects of the intoxicating substance wore off, ensuring that he did not pose a danger to himself and others until he regained his composure. After he sobered up, he was transferred to the competent misdemeanor court where the police officers filed an indictment. The accused is faced with serious consequences, including the possibility of imprisonment due to repeated serious traffic violations.

In accordance with legal practice, the court is requested to impose an unconditional prison sentence and permanently confiscate the vehicle in favor of the Republic of Croatia. This case is not isolated; similar incidents frequently occur in Zagreb, where the police continuously conduct traffic control actions to reduce the number of offenders and increase safety on the roads. In recent weeks, the police have recorded an increased number of drivers driving under the influence of alcohol, representing a serious problem for traffic safety.

Statistics indicate that during the weekend numerous violations were recorded, including driving under the influence of alcohol. These police actions aim to raise awareness among drivers about the dangers of driving while intoxicated, and similar actions are regularly conducted, especially during weekends when a larger number of drivers are prone to violating traffic regulations.

Based on all the above, this incident represents an alarming situation that requires a serious response from all involved. Besides being aware of their own responsibilities, drivers must also understand the consequences of their actions, which can have far-reaching effects on the lives of others. In a society where driving under the influence of alcohol is becoming increasingly common, urgent measures are needed to combat this problem and ensure the safety of all traffic participants.
