Instructors of the Parachute Command of Special Forces, with the support of the Croatian Air Force and the Intelligence Regiment, conducted Advanced Parachute Training for members of the Croatian Armed Forces (CAF) at several locations in Croatia during June and July 2024.

This training aims to equip members of the Special Forces Command (SFC) and other CAF units for independent work with parachutes and parachute equipment. Trainees need to acquire knowledge that will enable them to provide support to commanders and operational NCOs in planning combat operations.

This training is more demanding than Basic Parachute Training because jumps are performed from higher altitudes, and parachutists are expected to master additional parachute handling skills.

The first part of the training takes place on the ground, where participants learn basic techniques of jumping with "wing" type parachutes, emergency procedures, packing, and using various equipment. The second part of the training includes jumps. Participants first perform "static line" jumps and then transition to free jumps where they independently open parachutes. During the training, the height from which jumps are performed gradually increases, and more complex exercises are introduced.

"Wing" type parachutes allow jumps from high altitudes, giving parachutists the ability to fly unnoticed into enemy territory, both day and night.

An advanced military parachutist must be able to jump in conditions of reduced visibility, carrying all the equipment necessary for the mission. The parachute serves as a means of transport to the point of task execution.

After completing the ground part of the training, participants take a written exam to verify their acquired skills and readiness for the jumping phase. During the jumps, participants' behavior and work are monitored daily, and the training is considered successfully completed if participants pass the exam jumps and adhere to all safety measures.

This advanced parachute training significantly contributes to the capabilities of CAF members, enabling them to perform tasks requiring parachute skills more efficiently and safely.

Advanced parachute training for CAF members has multiple values, not only in terms of technical skills but also in strengthening mental resilience and teamwork. Through demanding exercises and jumps, participants develop confidence and the ability to make quick decisions in stressful situations.

This type of training also promotes innovation and adaptability, as participants must master different scenarios and conditions they may encounter during operations. Through intensive training, special forces members acquire skills that are crucial for success in modern military operations.

Advanced parachute training is an opportunity for CAF members to stand out and demonstrate their abilities in the most challenging conditions. Through this program, participants not only improve their technical skills but also build character and team cohesion, which is of utmost importance for successful military missions.

Advanced parachute training reflects the commitment of CAF to continuous development and improvement of their members' capabilities. Through this training, Croatian soldiers gain invaluable experiences and skills that will serve them in future challenges and operations, both nationally and internationally.

Editorial Desk for Military and Security Affairs

The Defence and Geostrategic Affairs Editorial Board brings together authors who have spent many years analysing security trends, military doctrines and power relations on the international stage. Our texts are created from the experience of people who have followed the development of modern weapon systems, the evolution of military technologies and the broader geopolitical processes that shape the world for decades. The editorial approach is based on a clear understanding of military strategies, historical precedents and the ways in which the decisions of major powers reflect on global security.

In our work, we rely on professional expertise, personal experience and long-term monitoring of the defence sector. Our authors have studied military operations, modernisation programmes, international conflicts and security studies for years, enabling them to answer complex questions calmly, precisely and with well-founded arguments. We do not deal with superficial interpretations nor transmit sensationalism; our goal is to explain context as seen by people who have researched security challenges throughout their careers.

We pay particular attention to changes that shift the global balance — the strengthening of military alliances, the development of new technologies, doctrinal adjustments and the transformation of international relations. Our focus is not solely on numbers and technical data, but also on the motives, intentions and consequences behind political and military moves. We believe that defence cannot be understood without a broader geostrategic perspective, and geopolitics without a military dimension remains incomplete.

Each member of our editorial team approaches topics with a deep sense of responsibility towards the reader. We strive for clear and comprehensible writing, whether dealing with analyses of weapon systems, regional tensions or security threats that shape the future. Our work stems from the conviction that information is the foundation of security, and that quality journalism is recognised by its ability to turn complex processes into content that helps navigate a rapidly changing world.

The Defence and Geostrategic Affairs Editorial Board continues to build a recognisable style — serious, well-grounded and analytical — and remains committed to seeking answers that are not always simple, but always important. Our mission is to provide content based on experience, fact-checking and an understanding of the security reality, without shortcuts or clichés. In a time when security decisions have far-reaching consequences, we believe that truthful and expertly prepared information is the most valuable resource we can offer our readers.
