The town of Krk, from August 23rd to September 1st, becomes the center of one of the most recognizable events on the island – the 18th Fig Days. The event, organized by the Tourist Board of the Town of Krk, this year brings an exceptional blend of tradition, gastronomy, and culture, focusing on the fig, a fruit that has been present in the Mediterranean for centuries.

The celebration of figs begins on August 23rd, when local restaurateurs, in collaboration with the organizers, will present their culinary masterpieces. This year, the emphasis is on innovative ways of using figs, so visitors will be able to enjoy a wide range of dishes, from traditional delicacies to modern culinary creations. Hospitality establishments across Krk will join this celebration, offering special menus and promotions until the end of the event.

Sales-Exhibition Section: The Wealth of Mediterranean Tradition
From August 30th to September 1st, the center of events will be Veli Park, where the sales-exhibition part of the event will take place. At this fair, visitors will have the opportunity to get acquainted with authentic fig-based products. From homemade jams and marmalades, through liqueurs, to unique souvenirs and cosmetics, each exhibitor will offer something special. In addition to gastronomic delights, emphasis is also placed on handicrafts and natural cosmetics, connecting the event with local heritage and sustainable development.

Education and Workshops: The Fig as Inspiration
The educational part of the event is intended for all ages, with special programs that combine fun and learning. One of the most interesting workshops is undoubtedly Art & Wine, which offers participants the opportunity to create their own artworks inspired by figs while enjoying a glass of Krk wine. Led by the experienced Alenka Goldner Sučić, participants will explore the acrylic on canvas technique while relaxing in a friendly atmosphere.

Furthermore, the event includes a series of other workshops, such as making souvenirs from clay and fig leaf baskets, which combine creativity with tradition. A particularly interesting lecture on fig cultivation will be held by Associate Professor Željko Prgomet, providing insight into modern methods of monitoring the development and quality of fruits.

Music Program: Rhythms of the Mediterranean and Latin America
The music program of this year's Fig Days brings a mix of Mediterranean and South American sounds. On Friday, August 30th, at Kamplin Square, starting at 8:30 PM, Alma del Viento, an ensemble that brings authentic rhythms of Latin America, will perform. Their repertoire includes traditional songs from Argentina, Peru, Chile, and Bolivia, taking visitors on a musical journey through the rich history of these countries.

Saturday evening, August 31st, is reserved for a concert by Božidarka Matija Čerina, whose emotional performance at Kamplin Square will undoubtedly leave a strong impression on the audience. This talented singer, known for her unique blend of classical and popular music, promises an unforgettable evening under the stars.

Final Day: The Last Beats of the Event
The final day, September 1st, brings closing music performances at Vela Placa. The program begins at 8:00 PM with the Town Music of Krk, one of the oldest musical societies in Croatia. After them, at 9:00 PM, the stage will be taken by Klapa Kaštadi, who will conclude this year's event with authentic Dalmatian melodies. Tourism desk

Our Travel Desk was born out of a long-standing passion for travel, discovering new places, and serious journalism. Behind every article stand people who have been living tourism for decades – as travelers, tourism workers, guides, hosts, editors, and reporters. For more than thirty years, destinations, seasonal trends, infrastructure development, changes in travelers’ habits, and everything that turns a trip into an experience – and not just a ticket and an accommodation reservation – have been closely followed. These experiences are transformed into articles conceived as a companion to the reader: honest, informed, and always on the traveler’s side.

At the Travel Desk, we write from the perspective of someone who has truly walked the cobblestones of old towns, taken local buses, waited for the ferry in peak season, and searched for a hidden café in a small alley far from the postcards. Every destination is observed from multiple angles – how travelers experience it, what the locals say about it, what stories are hidden in museums and monuments, but also what the real quality of accommodation, beaches, transport links, and amenities is. Instead of generic descriptions, the focus is on concrete advice, real impressions, and details that are hard to find in official brochures.

Special attention is given to conversations with restaurateurs, private accommodation hosts, local guides, tourism workers, and people who make a living from travelers, as well as those who are only just trying to develop lesser-known destinations. Through such conversations, stories arise that do not show only the most famous attractions but also the rhythm of everyday life, habits, local cuisine, customs, and small rituals that make every place unique. The Travel Desk strives to record this layer of reality and convey it in articles that connect facts with emotion.

The content does not stop at classic travelogues. It also covers topics such as sustainable tourism, off-season travel, safety on the road, responsible behavior towards the local community and nature, as well as practical aspects like public transport, prices, recommended neighborhoods to stay in, and getting your bearings on the ground. Every article goes through a phase of research, fact-checking, and editing to ensure that the information is accurate, clear, and applicable in real situations – from a short weekend trip to a longer stay in a country or city.

The goal of the Travel Desk is that, after reading an article, the reader feels as if they have spoken to someone who has already been there, tried everything, and is now honestly sharing what is worth seeing, what to skip, and where those moments are hidden that turn a trip into a memory. That is why every new story is built slowly and carefully, with respect for the place it is about and for the people who will choose their next destination based on these words.
