This Saturday, July 19, 2025, the island of Cres will not be just another sun-drenched summer destination, but the epicenter of an unforgettable celebration that combines tradition, creativity, and the pure joy of living. A river of colors, laughter, and music will parade through the streets of the town of Cres as part of the jubilee 25th edition of the Summer Carnival, an event that over a quarter of a century has become an indispensable part of the island's culture and one of the most recognizable summer events in the entire Kvarner region. This celebration is not just a mere summer refreshment of the long winter carnival tradition, but an authentic expression of the identity and pride of the local community, an event that gathers both local residents and numerous visitors from all over the world with equal enthusiasm. All who decide to visit this pearl of the Adriatic and find the perfect accommodation in Cres will have the opportunity to witness a unique spectacle.

A quarter of a century of carnival fever in the heart of summer

The story of the Summer Carnival in Cres began 25 years ago as an idea to move the carnival spirit, deeply rooted in the island's winter customs, to the warmest time of the year. The initiative, which at first might have seemed like a bold experiment, has over the years grown into a magnificent event that attracts an increasing number of participants and spectators each year. What makes the Summer Carnival special is its ability to bring generations together. From the youngest, who take their first carnival steps in colorful costumes, to entire families and associations that work diligently for months on creating original masks and choreographies, they all form the soul of this event. It is precisely this enthusiasm, passed down from generation to generation, that is responsible for the event reaching its silver jubilee edition, confirming how much the people of Cres love and live for carnival.

The hosts and the heart of the entire organization, the carnival association "Vežgani" from Cres, are leading the procession again this year, carrying on their shoulders the legacy and responsibility of preserving this valuable tradition. Their dedication and love for the carnival are visible in every detail, from organizing the procession to entertaining the audience. Over the years, "Vežgani" have become synonymous with the carnival in Cres, and their role in connecting the local community and promoting the island is immeasurable.

International procession as the crown of the celebration

The central and most anticipated moment of the event is certainly the grand international carnival procession. This Saturday, starting at 8:00 PM, an impressive column of more than 500 participants spread across 23 imaginative groups will set off from the Šetalište 20. travnja. The town of Cres will turn into an open-air stage, and its streets will become a river of creativity and positive energy. Masked groups from various parts of Croatia, including Istria and Kvarner, as well as from neighboring Slovenia and Italy, will showcase the full splendor of their costumes and rehearsed choreographies. This international dimension gives the carnival a special charm, showing that laughter, dance, and goodwill know no borders and successfully unite different cultures and customs.

The procession will move through the town streets, greeted by the applause and ovations of the large audience that faithfully follows this colorful spectacle every year, to reach its climax on the main town square, Trg Frane Petrića. It is there that the carnival magic will continue late into the night. After the presentation of all the groups, the stage will be taken over by the energetic band Point, whose performance, filled with famous hits, will surely get everyone present dancing and singing and ensure a memorable atmosphere.

More than an event – a symbol of community and tradition

The Summer Carnival in Cres is not just a tourist attraction or another event on the summer calendar; it is a pulsating proof of the strength of community, enthusiasm, and cheerful spirit that are woven into the identity of this island. It is an event that celebrates life, creativity, and friendship. Over its 25 years of existence, the carnival has created countless memories and become a meeting place for old and new friends. It is a reminder of the importance of preserving tradition, but also of being open to new ideas that enrich the cultural offer. Many visitors plan their vacation specifically at the time of the carnival, and the choice of accommodation on the island of Cres allows them to be at the very center of the action.

Therefore, the organizers extend an open invitation to everyone – island residents, dear guests, and casual passers-by – to join this grand celebration. Whether you come as an active participant in the procession, as a loud supporter on the sidelines, or simply as a spectator eager for a unique experience, your presence will contribute to the magnificent atmosphere. Join the celebration of a quarter of a century of an event that counts not only years, but also smiles, hugs, and memories that are created and long remembered. Be a part of the celebratory story that the town of Cres will tell this Saturday.

Tourism desk

Our Travel Desk was born out of a long-standing passion for travel, discovering new places, and serious journalism. Behind every article stand people who have been living tourism for decades – as travelers, tourism workers, guides, hosts, editors, and reporters. For more than thirty years, destinations, seasonal trends, infrastructure development, changes in travelers’ habits, and everything that turns a trip into an experience – and not just a ticket and an accommodation reservation – have been closely followed. These experiences are transformed into articles conceived as a companion to the reader: honest, informed, and always on the traveler’s side.

At the Travel Desk, we write from the perspective of someone who has truly walked the cobblestones of old towns, taken local buses, waited for the ferry in peak season, and searched for a hidden café in a small alley far from the postcards. Every destination is observed from multiple angles – how travelers experience it, what the locals say about it, what stories are hidden in museums and monuments, but also what the real quality of accommodation, beaches, transport links, and amenities is. Instead of generic descriptions, the focus is on concrete advice, real impressions, and details that are hard to find in official brochures.

Special attention is given to conversations with restaurateurs, private accommodation hosts, local guides, tourism workers, and people who make a living from travelers, as well as those who are only just trying to develop lesser-known destinations. Through such conversations, stories arise that do not show only the most famous attractions but also the rhythm of everyday life, habits, local cuisine, customs, and small rituals that make every place unique. The Travel Desk strives to record this layer of reality and convey it in articles that connect facts with emotion.

The content does not stop at classic travelogues. It also covers topics such as sustainable tourism, off-season travel, safety on the road, responsible behavior towards the local community and nature, as well as practical aspects like public transport, prices, recommended neighborhoods to stay in, and getting your bearings on the ground. Every article goes through a phase of research, fact-checking, and editing to ensure that the information is accurate, clear, and applicable in real situations – from a short weekend trip to a longer stay in a country or city.

The goal of the Travel Desk is that, after reading an article, the reader feels as if they have spoken to someone who has already been there, tried everything, and is now honestly sharing what is worth seeing, what to skip, and where those moments are hidden that turn a trip into a memory. That is why every new story is built slowly and carefully, with respect for the place it is about and for the people who will choose their next destination based on these words.
