The weekend in the Municipality of Dobrinj brings an active programme in Klimno and Šilo, while the whole of Krk is expecting special traffic regulation due to an international race

The upcoming weekend in the area of the Municipality of Dobrinj brings a combination of recreation, time spent outdoors and a spring offer for residents and guests, but also an important traffic notice that applies to the entire island of Krk. According to the published event calendar of the Dobrinj Municipality Tourist Board and official announcements related to the island’s sports programme, on Saturday, 25 April 2026, visitors can expect a guided walk from Klimno and a flower fair in Šilo, while on the same day the island will also host the third edition of the international cycling race Krk Granfondo Falkensteiner Punat. Precisely because of this race, temporary closures of a number of roads will be in force during the late morning and early afternoon, so everyone planning to come to the Dobrinj area, travel between settlements or take a trip to other parts of the island will have to plan their departure time and route more carefully.

For the Municipality of Dobrinj, such a schedule means a dynamic weekend in which local events take place in a spring and pre-season setting, at a moment when programmes intended both for the local population and for guests looking for a calmer, content-rich stay are becoming increasingly prominent on the eastern side of the island. Klimno and Šilo thus stand out as two points of the same weekend programme, but with different emphases. One event is focused on movement, nature and recreational time spent outdoors, while the other places emphasis on local village life, seasonal shopping and arranging yards, balconies and gardens. In the background of everything is also the fact that April on Krk is already part of the active tourist season, so this information will be important to many not only as an event announcement but also as a practical guideline for organising the day, especially for those coming for the weekend or planning accommodation in the Municipality of Dobrinj.

The guided walk from Klimno opens Saturday morning

The Saturday programme in the Municipality of Dobrinj begins as early as 9 a.m. in Klimno, where the Kivna Sports Recreation Association, in cooperation with the Dobrinj Municipality Tourist Board, is organising a guided walk starting from the centre of the settlement, on the waterfront. According to the published information, it is a circular recreational route approximately 11 kilometres long. The trail leads along a forest path towards Županje and then continues towards Šilo, after which participants return to the starting point. The very character of the route indicates that the programme is conceived as an accessible spring activity for a wider circle of recreation enthusiasts, rather than as a competitive feat or a demanding hiking ascent. The organisers present the walk as an opportunity to spend time in nature, enjoy the fresh air and get to know the landscape of the Dobrinj area and the eastern part of the island of Krk.

Such programmes have become increasingly present in the pre-season in recent years because they suit the profile of guests who do not come to the seaside exclusively for swimming, but seek an active holiday, a quieter environment and activities that include the local area outside the main summer crowds. Klimno is an especially suitable place for such a start to the day. It is a settlement in Soline Bay which, according to data from the local tourist board, is closely linked to the sea, shipbuilding and a quieter type of stay, and outside the height of summer often serves as a starting point for recreational and exploratory routes in the surrounding area. For visitors who want to use the weekend for a more active tour of eastern Krk, this walk can be a good reason for an earlier arrival or for accommodation offers in Klimno and nearby places.

An important part of the announcement also relates to practical instructions for participants. The organisers call for suitable footwear and clothing, a sufficient amount of fluids and sun protection. This is particularly important on spring days when temperatures may be pleasant for walking, but the sun is already strong enough that spending several hours outdoors without preparation becomes tiring. It is also emphasised that people walk at their own responsibility, which is a common formulation for similar recreational programmes in nature. Registrations for participation, according to the organisers’ published announcement, are received in advance via an online form, which shows that even for local events a simple digital registration model is increasingly being used for easier organisation of the group and monitoring of interest.

Šilo on the same day offers a flower fair and the spring rhythm of the place

On the same day, also from 9 a.m., but in Šilo, the programme takes on a different tone. A flower fair is being held on the small square and lasts until 4 p.m., and according to the published description it is an event where different types of flowers and seedlings can be bought at promotional, that is, more favourable prices. The organiser of the fair is the Dobrinj Municipality Tourist Board. Although at first glance this is a simple local fair, such events in the pre-season have a broader role because they enliven the public space of the settlement and attract not only local residents but also owners of holiday homes, weekend visitors and guests who are on the island precisely during the time of spring arrangement of yards, terraces and balconies.

Šilo is one of the most recognisable places in the area of the Municipality of Dobrinj and one of the more important tourist points on the eastern side of the island. The local tourist board describes the place as a destination focused on a quieter holiday, the sea and relaxation, but content such as the flower fair shows that pre-season life there is not reduced only to preparations for summer. Such events also have a social function: they create a reason for people to stay in the centre of the place, connect local needs with tourist movements and give an additional rhythm to a weekend that might otherwise pass without major public content. For guests staying in the eastern part of Krk on those days, or only planning accommodation in Šilo, the fair can be a simple but pleasant reason for a morning or afternoon walk through the place.

The special value of such events lies in the fact that they do not require complex logistics or extensive preparation by visitors. Unlike a sports event or an organised tour, the flower fair is open to a wide circle of people: families with children, older visitors, apartment owners arranging their yards, but also day-trippers who want to stop briefly and feel the local rhythm of the place. At a time when April in Kvarner and on Krk is increasingly clearly taking on the outlines of pre-season dynamics, it is precisely such small fairs that often show how the tourist season actually begins long before the main summer crowds. Therefore, it is not unrealistic to expect that some of the visitors of the guided walk from Klimno will, after the end of the programme, also go down to Šilo, thereby naturally connecting the two Saturday events into one full-day story in the Dobrinj area.

Krk Granfondo changes the Saturday traffic picture of the whole island

However, the most important operational information this weekend nevertheless relates to traffic. On Saturday, 25 April 2026, the third edition of the international cycling race Krk Granfondo Falkensteiner Punat will take place on the island of Krk, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In the official announcement, the Krk Island Tourist Board states that due to the high level of security of this international race, special traffic regulation will be in force at the level of the entire island, with temporary closure of certain sections of public roads. This is not only a technical detail for race participants, but important information for everyone planning to travel that day between Punat, Omišalj, the Dobrinj area, Vrbnik, Baška and other places on Krk.

According to the published road closure plan, the centre of Punat will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 10:10 a.m. State road D102 from Punat to Omišalj will be closed in the period from 9:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. The section from Omišalj to Čižići is scheduled for closure from 10:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., while the road from Čižići, via Soline, Hlapa, Gostinjac and Risika, to Vrbnik will be closed from 10:45 a.m. to 12 p.m. Then follows the section from Vrbnik to the Kuka junction with road D102, which will be closed from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. D102 above Punat to the centre of Baška and back is scheduled for closure from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., and the road from the Kornić roundabout, that is, Dunat, to the county road towards Punat remains under special regulation from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.

For the area of the Municipality of Dobrinj, it is especially important that among the sections covered by temporary closures are precisely the routes that pass through or gravitate towards the eastern part of the island, including the Omišalj – Čižići direction and the route from the Čižići area via Soline, Hlapa, Gostinjac and Risika towards Vrbnik. In other words, although the local events in Klimno and Šilo are taking place within the same morning and daytime framework, some visitors must take into account that travelling by car to other parts of Krk will not be usual. This particularly applies to those coming from the mainland via the Krk Bridge and then planning to continue towards the Dobrinj area or further towards the southern parts of the island. In such circumstances, the organisers’ recommendation to strictly follow the instructions of the police and stewards is not a formality, but a necessary condition for race safety and the normal functioning of traffic to the extent possible.

How to coordinate local events and island traffic regulation

For residents and guests planning to spend Saturday precisely in the area of the Municipality of Dobrinj, good time organisation will be crucial. Those who want to take part in the guided walk from Klimno should count on an earlier arrival, so that by 9 a.m. they are at the starting point without stress and possible delays. Given that some of the traffic restrictions on the island begin as early as 9:30 a.m., arriving earlier is not only a matter of comfort but also a practical measure. The same applies to visitors to the flower fair in Šilo, especially if they intend to come from other parts of the island. The least uncertainty will be faced by those who will already wake up on the eastern side of Krk in the morning, which is an additional reason to consider accommodation close to the event location and to use the weekend without the need for longer drives during the time of road closures.

It is precisely in such examples that one can see how important good coordination of local programmes and wider island events is in destinations such as the Dobrinj area. On the one hand, the guided walk and flower fair are designed as open, accessible and relaxed programmes for Saturday. On the other hand, the international cycling race, which by its nature is logistically more demanding, imposes a different movement regime and a higher level of organisation. Visitors will therefore benefit the most if they view this weekend as a whole, and not as a series of separate events. Those planning to take part in local content while at the same time avoiding additional stress should adapt their Saturday schedule to the race traffic map, that is, organise the day in such a way that after arrival they rely more on staying in one part of the island than on frequent relocations by car.

Such an approach can also be a good opportunity for a different experience of the place. Instead of Saturday being reduced to passing through several points in a short time, visitors can choose a slower rhythm: a morning walk from Klimno, a short break by the sea, a visit to Šilo, buying seedlings or flowers, and spending the rest of the day without haste in the local environment. In this way, the special traffic regulation will not necessarily be only a restriction, but also an incentive to experience the weekend more calmly, with more time spent in the destination itself. For places such as Klimno and Šilo, which otherwise build their identity on a quieter type of holiday and more direct contact with the area, this is logic that actually suits them.

The Dobrinj area in the pre-season confirms the model of small, content-rich events

When viewed together, the Saturday guided walk and the flower fair show the direction in which the pre-season offer in the area of the Municipality of Dobrinj is increasingly developing. These are contents that do not rely on mass attendance, but on adaptation to the space and the audience. One event uses the natural and landscape particularities of the area between Klimno, Županje and Šilo, while the other activates the public space of the place and nurtures a simple, more everyday form of encounter between residents and guests. Such a model is becoming increasingly important because many visitors to Krk no longer seek only the classic summer package of sea and sun, but also activities that are smaller in scale, more authentic and spatially closer to the local community.

In that picture, the Dobrinj area has clear advantages. On the one hand, it offers coastline, bays and places suitable for a quieter holiday, and on the other relatively short distances between settlements that make it possible to connect several contents within the same day. Precisely for that reason, it is not hard to imagine that the Saturday programme will also attract those who do not otherwise regularly participate in organised events. Recreation enthusiasts will have a motive for coming to Klimno, lovers of flowers and gardening a reason to go to Šilo, and everyone together will also have to follow the traffic rules determined that day by the Granfondo. This is at the same time an image of the contemporary island weekend: local events, tourist pre-season, sports manifestations of an international character and the need to coordinate all of this in a space that is limited, but content-wise increasingly lively.

For those who are only planning to come to Krk this very weekend, the message is clear: there is content, but the day must be planned more carefully than usual. Whoever does this in time will be able to make the most of Saturday in the area of the Municipality of Dobrinj — from morning recreation and nature to the spring fair in Šilo — with the awareness that due to the major cycling race traffic on the island will be different from usual. And that is precisely the main value of timely information: not only to announce events, but to make it possible for residents and guests to experience them without unnecessary haste, delays and confusion, whether they come to Krk for a one-day trip or choose accommodation for visitors on the eastern side of the island in order to spend the weekend closer to the events themselves.

Tourism desk

Our Travel Desk was born out of a long-standing passion for travel, discovering new places, and serious journalism. Behind every article stand people who have been living tourism for decades – as travelers, tourism workers, guides, hosts, editors, and reporters. For more than thirty years, destinations, seasonal trends, infrastructure development, changes in travelers’ habits, and everything that turns a trip into an experience – and not just a ticket and an accommodation reservation – have been closely followed. These experiences are transformed into articles conceived as a companion to the reader: honest, informed, and always on the traveler’s side.

At the Travel Desk, we write from the perspective of someone who has truly walked the cobblestones of old towns, taken local buses, waited for the ferry in peak season, and searched for a hidden café in a small alley far from the postcards. Every destination is observed from multiple angles – how travelers experience it, what the locals say about it, what stories are hidden in museums and monuments, but also what the real quality of accommodation, beaches, transport links, and amenities is. Instead of generic descriptions, the focus is on concrete advice, real impressions, and details that are hard to find in official brochures.

Special attention is given to conversations with restaurateurs, private accommodation hosts, local guides, tourism workers, and people who make a living from travelers, as well as those who are only just trying to develop lesser-known destinations. Through such conversations, stories arise that do not show only the most famous attractions but also the rhythm of everyday life, habits, local cuisine, customs, and small rituals that make every place unique. The Travel Desk strives to record this layer of reality and convey it in articles that connect facts with emotion.

The content does not stop at classic travelogues. It also covers topics such as sustainable tourism, off-season travel, safety on the road, responsible behavior towards the local community and nature, as well as practical aspects like public transport, prices, recommended neighborhoods to stay in, and getting your bearings on the ground. Every article goes through a phase of research, fact-checking, and editing to ensure that the information is accurate, clear, and applicable in real situations – from a short weekend trip to a longer stay in a country or city.

The goal of the Travel Desk is that, after reading an article, the reader feels as if they have spoken to someone who has already been there, tried everything, and is now honestly sharing what is worth seeing, what to skip, and where those moments are hidden that turn a trip into a memory. That is why every new story is built slowly and carefully, with respect for the place it is about and for the people who will choose their next destination based on these words.
