Last weekend, from June 20th to 22nd, the historic heart of the town of Krk once again pulsed to the rhythm of music, film, and gastronomy, confirming its status as an unmissable summer cultural hub on the Adriatic. The new edition of the Krk Music Fest, impeccably organized by the Krk Tourist Board, filled the streets and squares with a rich and meaningful program, attracting numerous visitors eager for top-notch artistic experiences. The three-day event, which celebrates music in all its forms, successfully combined the preservation of tradition with modern musical expressions, all accompanied by the irresistible flavors of the popular Food Truck Festival. The town of Krk once again proved to be an ideal destination where culture and entertainment harmoniously intertwine.
Tradition and Pop-Rock Energy to Kick Off the Festival
The festival opened on Friday, June 20th, with a program that paid homage to the island's rich cultural heritage. The evening at Vela placa began with a performance by the Folklore Society Poljica, which has been proudly preserving and presenting the indigenous dances and music of the Krk region for decades. Their performance was a vivid reminder of the importance of preserving local identity. Shortly thereafter, the picturesque streets of the old town echoed with the sounds of a promenade performance by the Krk Town Orchestra, the oldest cultural association on the island with a tradition spanning nearly two centuries. Their music created a festive and pleasant atmosphere, preparing the audience for the musical spectacle that followed on the Krk waterfront.
The highlight of the first evening was the energetic Golden Pop Rock Show performed by the band LevelOne. The packed waterfront sang and danced to timeless hits that marked the golden age of pop and rock music. With their convincing performance and great interaction with the audience, the band created an electric atmosphere, proving that quality music knows no borders or generations. It was the perfect introduction to a festival weekend that promised diversity and top-notch entertainment.
At the same time, film lovers at the Krk Cinema had the opportunity to watch the long-awaited documentary film "Becoming Led Zeppelin". Through previously unseen archival footage and interviews, the film provided an intimate insight into the early days and meteoric rise of one of the most influential rock bands in history, offering a unique perspective on their musical genius.
Musical Unity on World Music Day
Saturday, a day that also celebrates World Music Day, brought a program that celebrated the diversity of vocal and instrumental expressions. The program at Vela placa began with a performance by the Cultural and Artistic Society Vrh, which also showcased a piece of the island's rich tradition through its dances and songs. After them, the youngest took the stage – the Mići Boduli children's choir, who warmed the hearts of the audience with their charming performance. The musical journey continued with the program "Ritam mora" (Rhythm of the Sea) performed by the talented Anita Gunjević and the Dolce Ritmo band, bringing a Mediterranean atmosphere and summer ease to the hearts of the visitors.
An Evening to Remember with the Four Tenors
The evening hours were reserved for a true musical treat – a concert by the 4 Tenors on the town waterfront. Đani Stipaničev, Marko Pecotić, Vladimir Garić, and Filip Hozjak, four impressive vocals of the domestic scene, once again confirmed their status as a musical attraction. Their performance was a true walk through musical decades; from powerful opera arias and Italian canzones to domestic and foreign evergreens and unexpected covers of rock and pop hits. The combination of exceptional vocal abilities, Mediterranean charm, and witty announcements created an evening filled with emotions and laughter. The audience followed every performance with enthusiasm, rewarding them with thunderous applause, and the beautiful ambiance of the waterfront under the stars made this concert truly special. If you are looking for accommodation in Krk, the experience of such evenings will be at your fingertips.
The film program at the Krk Cinema that evening offered the biographical drama "Maria", which depicts the turbulent life of the legendary opera diva Maria Callas. The film brought the audience closer not only to the artistic greatness of "La Divina" but also to her personal struggles and sacrifices that stood behind her brilliant career.
Grand Finale with Local Forces and Global Rock Anthems
The last day of the festival, Sunday, was dedicated to the promotion of local musical forces and a powerful rock finale. The program began with a performance by the Kornić Cultural Society, thus continuing the presentation of the valuable guardians of the island's heritage. The performances of two vocal groups from the town of Krk were particularly impressive. First to perform was the youth choir of the Kreativni Krk association – Tiramol, whose fresh and modern a cappella arrangements of famous folk and pop songs showed the exceptional talent and energy of the young singers. Immediately after them, the newly formed mixed vocal group Kurikta presented itself to the audience, whose performance announced a promising future on the local music scene.
The grand finale of the festival belonged to a band that left the audience breathless – Velvet Dress, a U2 Tribute band. Sponsored by Valamar, this concert was more than just a tribute. The musical and visual fidelity to the original was astonishing, and a special authenticity was given to the performance by the fact that the band's singer once performed on stage with Bono and U2 themselves. The band performed a series of iconic songs by the Irish rock giants, including "One," "With or Without You," "Elevation," and "Sunday Bloody Sunday." The powerful and emotional performance, accompanied by the audience's ovations, was the perfect finishing touch to the three-day celebration of music, closing the Krk Music Fest at the highest possible level.
Gastronomic Oasis: Food Truck Festival
The festival's music program was perfectly complemented by a rich gastronomic offer at the Food Truck Festival, which took place from June 19th to 22nd in the immediate vicinity of Veli Park. Two attractively designed food trucks offered more than ten diverse signature dishes, combining the best of street food culture with creative culinary ideas. Visitors could enjoy juicy burgers, innovative dishes inspired by Istrian and world cuisine, and other delicious snacks. A specially designed festival scenography and ambient lighting transformed the entire area into a true gourmet oasis. In addition, a cocktail truck and the Central bar offered imaginative summer drinks. What makes this festival special is its emphasis on sustainability. All drinks were served in eco-friendly cups, with which the festival actively joined the "zero-waste" initiative, confirming that the town of Krk is committed to environmental awareness.
