As August slowly draws to a close and the summer season enters its magnificent finale, the ancient royal city of Nin is bustling with life and visitors like never before. Instead of tranquility, the tourist pulse here beats stronger than ever, and the Nin Tourist Board's activities not only keep up with the increased demand but also set new standards of quality, rewarding the effort, creativity, and excellence of those who contribute to the unique experience of the destination. This historical pearl of the Adriatic has once again proven why it holds prestigious titles, combining its rich past with a vibrant present through events that celebrate love and art.

Nin: The European Capital of Romance in Full Glory

The highlight of the summer events was undoubtedly the "Romantic Week," an event that once again cloaked the streets and squares of the historic core of Nin in a veil of love, tenderness, and fairytale scenes. Ever since 2015, when Nin was officially included in the elite society of the most romantic destinations in Europe, the city has proudly celebrated this title. Every August, Nin transforms into an open-air stage dedicated to the most beautiful emotions. This year, the event surpassed all previous editions, turning every stone alley, every hidden corner, and every small bridge into an idyllic romantic backdrop. Specially designed and imaginatively decorated romantic spots, such as kissing benches, floral installations, and lighting effects, have become essential places for creating lasting memories, inviting visitors to embrace, share tender moments, and, of course, take countless photographs that will immortalize the magic.

What makes this event special is the synergy of the entire local community. The success of the "Romantic Week" was contributed not only by the organizers but also by local restaurateurs and entrepreneurs who recognized the importance of building a common brand. With their effort and creativity, they enriched the overall experience, decorating their establishments and adapting their offerings to the spirit of romance. Their exceptional contribution has been recognized and rewarded with special acknowledgments, thereby encouraging further investment in the quality and authenticity of the offer.

This year, for their outstanding contribution to the romantic branding of the destination, the following establishments stood out:

  • SORELLE NIN - Was awarded a Special Acknowledgment for top quality and an exceptionally creative approach to decoration, which significantly contributed to strengthening the romantic image of the city of Nin.

  • SLASTIČARNICA GRGUR NIN - Is the recipient of an Acknowledgment for the imaginative romantic decoration of the establishment and the creation of a warm, local romantic atmosphere that enriched the city's ambiance.

Sand Magic on Queen's Beach: The 11th Sand Festival

After romantic experiences filled the old town core, the magic moved to one of the most beautiful and famous Croatian beaches. Nin's sandy shores, especially the renowned Queen's Beach, became an open-air studio for the eleventh edition of the Sand Festival, under the motto "the magic that is created and disappears." This unique festival celebrates creativity, imagination, and the transient beauty of art created from sand, the material that is the trademark of the Nin riviera. Queen's Beach, with its kilometers of fine sand and shallow, warm sea, provides the perfect conditions for families and amateur artists to indulge in creation and play.

Every year, the festival attracts an increasing number of participants, from the youngest castle builders to experienced amateur sculptors, who patiently and skillfully shape the sand into incredible sculptures. These works of art, although short-lived and at the mercy of the tide and wind, leave a deep and lasting impression on all visitors. Each sculpture tells its own story, and their transience only enhances the value of the moment in which they were created. This year, the jury had the difficult task of choosing the best among the many impressive creations.

The awards for the most imaginative and skilled sand artists went to:

  • First place was shared by Roko and Borna Kutija from Zagreb, who amazed with their impressive dragon sculpture, and Ana Marija Čikardić from Nova Kapela, whose work, a Croatian coat of arms in the shape of a heart with a crown inside which the name "NIN" was skillfully inscribed, was touching in its symbolism and precision of craftsmanship.

  • Second place was also shared between Božena Gržan from Petrčani, who created a dynamic sculpture of a football player, and the team Gabriel and Maya Mann from Obernburg (Germany), who created a monumental giant turtle out of sand.

  • Third place was won by the young team of Mie and Lene Čerimagić Želežinjak from nearby Privlaka, with their charming and skillfully shaped lion sculpture.

To ensure that the memory of these ephemeral masterpieces remains permanent, the Tourist Board provided special awards. Each of the awarded creations was captured in a professional photograph, and the first-place teams won personalized wall murals depicting their very own winning sculptures on Nin's beach. In this way, the magic created in the sand will adorn the walls of their homes, serving as a constant reminder of creativity, summer, and the unforgettable experience that Nin offers.

The Nin Tourist Board tirelessly continues to prepare new projects and events. Their dedication to enriching the tourist offer guarantees that numerous surprises await us in the upcoming period. Therefore, all lovers of history, nature, and unique experiences are invited to follow their announcements, because new events are coming soon, and with them, probably new recognitions for the most valuable stakeholders in Nin's tourism. Visit Nin and let yourself be carried away by the magic of this ancient city, whose romantic spirit and sandy shores will always call you back.

Tourism desk

Our Travel Desk was born out of a long-standing passion for travel, discovering new places, and serious journalism. Behind every article stand people who have been living tourism for decades – as travelers, tourism workers, guides, hosts, editors, and reporters. For more than thirty years, destinations, seasonal trends, infrastructure development, changes in travelers’ habits, and everything that turns a trip into an experience – and not just a ticket and an accommodation reservation – have been closely followed. These experiences are transformed into articles conceived as a companion to the reader: honest, informed, and always on the traveler’s side.

At the Travel Desk, we write from the perspective of someone who has truly walked the cobblestones of old towns, taken local buses, waited for the ferry in peak season, and searched for a hidden café in a small alley far from the postcards. Every destination is observed from multiple angles – how travelers experience it, what the locals say about it, what stories are hidden in museums and monuments, but also what the real quality of accommodation, beaches, transport links, and amenities is. Instead of generic descriptions, the focus is on concrete advice, real impressions, and details that are hard to find in official brochures.

Special attention is given to conversations with restaurateurs, private accommodation hosts, local guides, tourism workers, and people who make a living from travelers, as well as those who are only just trying to develop lesser-known destinations. Through such conversations, stories arise that do not show only the most famous attractions but also the rhythm of everyday life, habits, local cuisine, customs, and small rituals that make every place unique. The Travel Desk strives to record this layer of reality and convey it in articles that connect facts with emotion.

The content does not stop at classic travelogues. It also covers topics such as sustainable tourism, off-season travel, safety on the road, responsible behavior towards the local community and nature, as well as practical aspects like public transport, prices, recommended neighborhoods to stay in, and getting your bearings on the ground. Every article goes through a phase of research, fact-checking, and editing to ensure that the information is accurate, clear, and applicable in real situations – from a short weekend trip to a longer stay in a country or city.

The goal of the Travel Desk is that, after reading an article, the reader feels as if they have spoken to someone who has already been there, tried everything, and is now honestly sharing what is worth seeing, what to skip, and where those moments are hidden that turn a trip into a memory. That is why every new story is built slowly and carefully, with respect for the place it is about and for the people who will choose their next destination based on these words.
