The Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ) has started the new tourist year by participating in the Vakantiebeurs fair in Utrecht, one of the most important tourism events in the Netherlands, held from January 8 to 12, 2025. This prestigious fair brings together hundreds of exhibitors and tens of thousands of visitors every year, providing a platform for promoting destinations, exchanging ideas, and establishing business contacts. Croatia has stood out this year with its rich and diverse tourism offer, with a focus on sustainability and authenticity.

Vakantiebeurs – platform for the development of sustainable tourism

The Vakantiebeurs in Utrecht has been known for decades as an unmissable meeting place for tourism professionals and enthusiasts. The fair gathers around 900 exhibitors from around the world, and is visited by more than 65,000 people. This year, the focus was placed on sustainability and ecological awareness, which perfectly fit into HTZ's strategy for promoting Croatia as a destination that fosters responsible tourism. With the increasing awareness of travelers about the ecological footprint, the Croatian tourism offer has been further enriched with innovative content such as cycling paths, eco-accommodation, and outdoor activities.

Croatia in the Dutch market

In recent years, Croatia has become an increasingly popular destination for Dutch tourists. According to research, more than three-quarters of the Dutch plan to take a vacation in 2025, despite economic challenges such as rising prices and inflation. As many as 40% of respondents have already booked their holidays, with the spring months, particularly April, being among the most sought-after. The Dutch recognize Croatia as a destination offering beautiful natural landscapes, diverse activities, and hospitality, which was further confirmed by this year's presentation at the fair.

Croatian stand – fair attraction

The Croatian stand at the Vakantiebeurs this year attracted a lot of attention from visitors and the media. During the first day, which was reserved for B2B meetings, meetings were held with key partners, including representatives of leading tourist agencies and media. Among them were ANWB, TUI, KLM, and many others. Additionally, many bloggers and influencers expressed interest in the Croatian offer, ensuring additional media visibility.

Diverse offer of co-exhibitors

At the Croatian stand, many co-exhibitors presented their offers, including the Tourist Boards of Zagreb, Dubrovnik-Neretva County, Zadar, Šibenik-Knin, and Crikvenica. Their diverse offers included everything from cultural events to adventurous and gastro content, creating a complete impression of Croatia as a tourist destination.

Sustainable tourism – the key to the future

One of the key trends at this year's fair was the emphasis on sustainable tourism. Croatia highlighted projects such as the introduction of solar energy in tourist facilities, promotion of eco-certified accommodation, and the promotion of local products. Special programs that involve interaction with the local population and authentic experiences of life in smaller communities were particularly highlighted.

The future of Croatian tourism in the global market

Participation in fairs like the Vakantiebeurs is a crucial part of HTZ's strategy to attract international guests. The Dutch market, which continues to show increasing interest in Croatia, is one of the priority markets for Croatian tourism. Through cooperation with leading global partners and the implementation of innovative ideas, Croatia successfully positions itself as a modern and sustainable destination for all generations.

Tourism desk

Our Travel Desk was born out of a long-standing passion for travel, discovering new places, and serious journalism. Behind every article stand people who have been living tourism for decades – as travelers, tourism workers, guides, hosts, editors, and reporters. For more than thirty years, destinations, seasonal trends, infrastructure development, changes in travelers’ habits, and everything that turns a trip into an experience – and not just a ticket and an accommodation reservation – have been closely followed. These experiences are transformed into articles conceived as a companion to the reader: honest, informed, and always on the traveler’s side.

At the Travel Desk, we write from the perspective of someone who has truly walked the cobblestones of old towns, taken local buses, waited for the ferry in peak season, and searched for a hidden café in a small alley far from the postcards. Every destination is observed from multiple angles – how travelers experience it, what the locals say about it, what stories are hidden in museums and monuments, but also what the real quality of accommodation, beaches, transport links, and amenities is. Instead of generic descriptions, the focus is on concrete advice, real impressions, and details that are hard to find in official brochures.

Special attention is given to conversations with restaurateurs, private accommodation hosts, local guides, tourism workers, and people who make a living from travelers, as well as those who are only just trying to develop lesser-known destinations. Through such conversations, stories arise that do not show only the most famous attractions but also the rhythm of everyday life, habits, local cuisine, customs, and small rituals that make every place unique. The Travel Desk strives to record this layer of reality and convey it in articles that connect facts with emotion.

The content does not stop at classic travelogues. It also covers topics such as sustainable tourism, off-season travel, safety on the road, responsible behavior towards the local community and nature, as well as practical aspects like public transport, prices, recommended neighborhoods to stay in, and getting your bearings on the ground. Every article goes through a phase of research, fact-checking, and editing to ensure that the information is accurate, clear, and applicable in real situations – from a short weekend trip to a longer stay in a country or city.

The goal of the Travel Desk is that, after reading an article, the reader feels as if they have spoken to someone who has already been there, tried everything, and is now honestly sharing what is worth seeing, what to skip, and where those moments are hidden that turn a trip into a memory. That is why every new story is built slowly and carefully, with respect for the place it is about and for the people who will choose their next destination based on these words.
