Croatia has recently attracted great attention on the international stage by winning the prestigious title "Destination of the Year 2025" in the "Affordable Week" category at the prestigious Travel News Market fair, held in Stockholm. This event, recognized as one of the most important business gatherings of the tourism industry in the Nordic region, served as a platform for showcasing innovations and promoting tourist destinations worldwide.

Impressive results of this year's fair

The fair, held at the modern Stockholm Waterfront Congress Center, attracted over 250 exhibitors from various countries, representing a 40% increase compared to the previous year. Additionally, more than 2000 pre-arranged business meetings were recorded, marking a significant rise compared to last year's 1500. These figures indicate an increasing demand for quality tourism products and services.

Croatia as an attractive and affordable destination

Croatia was chosen as the best destination in the "Affordable Week" category, thanks to its combination of natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and affordable prices. This recognition comes after extensive research conducted by Travel News and Nordic Bench, covering more than 1500 respondents from Sweden. The research results revealed that Swedish tourists recognize Croatia as a destination offering the best value for money with a high standard of service.

One of the key factors securing this award was the diversity of the offer – from the picturesque beaches of the Adriatic, to historic cities like Dubrovnik and Split, to authentic gastronomic experiences blending Mediterranean and continental influences.

Changes in the travel habits of Swedish tourists

The research showed that Swedish travelers can be divided into three main groups: budget-conscious travelers seeking the best value for money, security-oriented travelers who prefer destinations with a high level of safety, and premium travelers who are willing to invest more for luxury and unique experiences. Croatia has proven to be an ideal choice for the first group, but it is also gaining growing popularity among other segments due to the increasingly high-quality offer of luxury accommodation and experiences.

An event that brings together key industry players

The Travel News Market attracted the most important representatives of the tourism sector, including leading media, tour operators, airlines, and travel agencies from all over Scandinavia. Such events not only serve as an opportunity to promote destinations but also to connect key stakeholders in the industry and create new business opportunities.

With the title of "Destination of the Year 2025" awarded, Croatia confirms its status as an essential destination on the European tourism map. With an increasing number of visitors and continuous improvements in the offer, Croatian tourism continues to push boundaries and redefine what it means to be a top destination.

Tourism desk

Our Travel Desk was born out of a long-standing passion for travel, discovering new places, and serious journalism. Behind every article stand people who have been living tourism for decades – as travelers, tourism workers, guides, hosts, editors, and reporters. For more than thirty years, destinations, seasonal trends, infrastructure development, changes in travelers’ habits, and everything that turns a trip into an experience – and not just a ticket and an accommodation reservation – have been closely followed. These experiences are transformed into articles conceived as a companion to the reader: honest, informed, and always on the traveler’s side.

At the Travel Desk, we write from the perspective of someone who has truly walked the cobblestones of old towns, taken local buses, waited for the ferry in peak season, and searched for a hidden café in a small alley far from the postcards. Every destination is observed from multiple angles – how travelers experience it, what the locals say about it, what stories are hidden in museums and monuments, but also what the real quality of accommodation, beaches, transport links, and amenities is. Instead of generic descriptions, the focus is on concrete advice, real impressions, and details that are hard to find in official brochures.

Special attention is given to conversations with restaurateurs, private accommodation hosts, local guides, tourism workers, and people who make a living from travelers, as well as those who are only just trying to develop lesser-known destinations. Through such conversations, stories arise that do not show only the most famous attractions but also the rhythm of everyday life, habits, local cuisine, customs, and small rituals that make every place unique. The Travel Desk strives to record this layer of reality and convey it in articles that connect facts with emotion.

The content does not stop at classic travelogues. It also covers topics such as sustainable tourism, off-season travel, safety on the road, responsible behavior towards the local community and nature, as well as practical aspects like public transport, prices, recommended neighborhoods to stay in, and getting your bearings on the ground. Every article goes through a phase of research, fact-checking, and editing to ensure that the information is accurate, clear, and applicable in real situations – from a short weekend trip to a longer stay in a country or city.

The goal of the Travel Desk is that, after reading an article, the reader feels as if they have spoken to someone who has already been there, tried everything, and is now honestly sharing what is worth seeing, what to skip, and where those moments are hidden that turn a trip into a memory. That is why every new story is built slowly and carefully, with respect for the place it is about and for the people who will choose their next destination based on these words.
