At the unique junction of the rugged beauty of Velebit and the crystal-clear Adriatic Sea, Karlobag is increasingly positioning itself as an indispensable point on the map of European motorcycle tourists. Recognizing the enormous potential of its spectacular roads and natural environment, the Karlobag Municipality Tourist Board has launched a strategic project with the aim of raising the quality and recognition of the local offer. In this regard, a public call has been issued for inclusion in the quality label award program called “Moto Karlobag”, intended for all accommodation service providers and hospitality establishments in the municipality.

This initiative is a logical continuation of recent activities that establish Karlobag as a leading destination for two-wheel enthusiasts, including the opening of the first specialized motorcycle beach in Croatia. The goal is clear: to create a brand that will guarantee motorcyclists proven quality and service tailored to their specific needs, from secure parking to specific information about routes and local attractions.

Strengthening Competitiveness and Recognisability on the Market

The “Moto Karlobag” program is designed as a supplement to the existing categorization system for accommodation and hospitality facilities. While stars indicate the general level of equipment, this specialized quality label will serve as a guarantee that the facility meets specific standards and criteria aimed at motorcycle tourists. It is a systematic approach aimed at creating a strong network of connected stakeholders – from private accommodation providers to restaurants and bars – who will together build the image of Karlobag as a top motorcycle destination.

Possessing this label gives service providers a significant advantage in the increasingly demanding tourist market. It allows them to differentiate from the competition and provides easier access to a target group of guests who are looking for an authentic and proven experience. For the tourists themselves, the “Moto Karlobag” label will be a reliable guide to facilities that understand their needs, thereby raising the overall experience of staying in the destination to a higher level. Through this program, the Tourist Board aims to encourage investment in quality, improve the offer, and ensure the long-term sustainability of tourism in the region.

Velebit Transversal and Adriatic Highway: A Paradise for Two-Wheel Enthusiasts

The attractiveness of Karlobag for motorcyclists lies in its extraordinary geographical position. It is right here that two legendary roads meet, representing the dream of every true driving enthusiast. On one hand, there is the Adriatic Highway (D8), which stretches along the coast, offering kilometers of curves with an uninterrupted view of the sea and the islands of Pag and Rab. Riding this section, where the smell of salt mixes with the scent of pine trees, represents the essence of the Adriatic motorcycling experience.

On the other hand, from the very heart of Karlobag rises the mythical Velebit transversal, state road D25 leading towards Gospić via Baške Oštarije. This ascent is a true test of driving skills and, at the same time, a reward for all senses. The road winds its way up through a rugged landscape, revealing spectacular, breathtaking views. With each kilometer traveled, the blue of the sea gives way to the harsh green and gray of the mountain peaks. Passing through Oštarije Gate and stopping at the famous Kubus monument, erected in honor of the road's construction, offers a panorama that is remembered for a lifetime. Precisely because of these unique roads, it is crucial to ensure top-quality accommodation in Karlobag that will provide motorcyclists with the perfect rest after an exciting day on the road. A quality offer of accommodation capacities is the foundation for the further development of this branch of tourism, and finding the ideal place to stay is a key part of planning any motorcycle adventure. Many renters already recognize the importance of providing additional services such as garages or covered parking, which guests on two wheels greatly appreciate.

Who Can Apply and What are the Conditions?

The public call is open to all legal and natural persons registered in the Karlobag Municipality for providing household accommodation services, as well as for all hospitality establishments. This includes owners of apartments, holiday homes, rooms, but also restaurants, taverns, and cafes who want to adapt and promote their offer among motorcycle tourists. All interested service providers offering accommodation in Karlobag or hospitality services are invited to inform themselves in detail about the propositions.

For a facility to receive the “Moto Karlobag” quality label, candidates must meet precisely defined criteria that will be thoroughly checked. The criteria are designed to ensure a high level of service tailored to motorcyclists, and include elements such as safety, equipment, availability of information, and general hospitality. The application process is formalized through a standardized form that contains all the necessary instructions for completion and a list of the required documentation. This form ensures transparency and equal treatment for all candidates.

Application Procedure and Deadlines

All interested parties should submit their applications exclusively by electronic means. It is necessary to fill out the official application form and attach all accompanying documentation specified in the public call. The complete application is sent to the Tourist Board's e-mail address: info@tz-karlobag.hr.

When sending, it is mandatory to state in the subject line of the e-mail: “Application for the Public Call „Moto Karlobag“.” The public call was recently published, and the deadline for submitting applications is 60 days from the date of publication, so now is the ideal time to gather the necessary documentation and fill out the form. Service providers who want to improve their business and become part of a recognizable story of quality should not miss this opportunity. For all additional information, clarifications, or assistance with the application process, candidates can contact the office of the Karlobag Municipality Tourist Board directly, where they will receive all the necessary answers and support. An investment in quality is an investment in the future, and finding certified accommodation in Karlobag will soon become even easier for the growing number of motorcycle enthusiasts visiting this beautiful region.

Tourism desk

Our Travel Desk was born out of a long-standing passion for travel, discovering new places, and serious journalism. Behind every article stand people who have been living tourism for decades – as travelers, tourism workers, guides, hosts, editors, and reporters. For more than thirty years, destinations, seasonal trends, infrastructure development, changes in travelers’ habits, and everything that turns a trip into an experience – and not just a ticket and an accommodation reservation – have been closely followed. These experiences are transformed into articles conceived as a companion to the reader: honest, informed, and always on the traveler’s side.

At the Travel Desk, we write from the perspective of someone who has truly walked the cobblestones of old towns, taken local buses, waited for the ferry in peak season, and searched for a hidden café in a small alley far from the postcards. Every destination is observed from multiple angles – how travelers experience it, what the locals say about it, what stories are hidden in museums and monuments, but also what the real quality of accommodation, beaches, transport links, and amenities is. Instead of generic descriptions, the focus is on concrete advice, real impressions, and details that are hard to find in official brochures.

Special attention is given to conversations with restaurateurs, private accommodation hosts, local guides, tourism workers, and people who make a living from travelers, as well as those who are only just trying to develop lesser-known destinations. Through such conversations, stories arise that do not show only the most famous attractions but also the rhythm of everyday life, habits, local cuisine, customs, and small rituals that make every place unique. The Travel Desk strives to record this layer of reality and convey it in articles that connect facts with emotion.

The content does not stop at classic travelogues. It also covers topics such as sustainable tourism, off-season travel, safety on the road, responsible behavior towards the local community and nature, as well as practical aspects like public transport, prices, recommended neighborhoods to stay in, and getting your bearings on the ground. Every article goes through a phase of research, fact-checking, and editing to ensure that the information is accurate, clear, and applicable in real situations – from a short weekend trip to a longer stay in a country or city.

The goal of the Travel Desk is that, after reading an article, the reader feels as if they have spoken to someone who has already been there, tried everything, and is now honestly sharing what is worth seeing, what to skip, and where those moments are hidden that turn a trip into a memory. That is why every new story is built slowly and carefully, with respect for the place it is about and for the people who will choose their next destination based on these words.
