Valamar's afforestation and environmental conservation initiative

As part of its ongoing battle for nature conservation and the enhancement of ecological balance in Croatia, Valamar has launched a donation campaign titled "Easy as one, two, tree". This campaign, which has now become a symbol of their commitment to sustainable development, aims to plant over 10,000 trees. With the selfless help of their guests, who actively participate in this initiative, Valamar has managed to achieve its goals earlier than planned, further highlighting the importance of collective action in environmental protection.

Achievements and goals of the campaign

Poreč, October 3, 2024 – Valamar's initiative "Easy as one, two, tree" continues to break records. This year, thanks to an extraordinary response from guests, it is expected that over 10,000 trees will be planted, which will bring the total number of trees planted through this initiative to over 22,000. Additionally, Valamar is already caring for 80,000 trees in its resorts and campsites across Croatia, and every year it continues to plant new flora. Under this campaign, for every donated tree, Valamar has committed to plant another one, further strengthening its ecological efforts.

The role of the community in the campaign

From the very beginning, Valamar's guests have been key participants in this campaign. "Easy as one, two, tree" was launched in collaboration with CO2MPENSATING BY PLANTING, the Croatian Scouts Association, Croatian Forests, and the HEARTH agency. This partnership enables various organizations, cities, and municipalities to actively participate in the fight against climate change through tree planting. In the last two years, with the help of donations from their guests, Valamar has successfully planted 12,000 trees in the Split-Dalmatia and Karlovac counties, and now plans to relocate planting to the area of Gorski Kotar, where planting will take place near Vrbovsko.

Reactions and plans for the future

Tea Pestotnik Prebeg, the director of the Quality and Sustainability Sector at Valamar, stated: "Every year we are more delighted by the reactions of our guests who actively participate in afforestation actions. This year we achieved our goal a month earlier than we expected, which clearly shows how much our guests appreciate this campaign. This initiative is just one of many efforts we invest in environmental protection and enhancing the satisfaction of our visitors."

Sustainable strategy until 2026

Valamar continues with ambitious plans within its sustainability strategy until 2026. This strategy includes further decarbonization, and the company plans to invest 50 million euros in projects that will have a significant social impact. In addition, Valamar implements a range of programs to protect the Adriatic Sea and biodiversity, with a special emphasis on environmental preservation and improving the quality of tourist destinations. These activities include the arrangement of beaches, promenades, bike paths, and other publicly accessible facilities that are open to the local community throughout the year. Through this, Valamar not only improves its services but also actively supports sustainable tourism and local economic development.

Final thought

Valamar's campaign "Easy as one, two, tree" represents a significant step towards a more sustainable future. This initiative not only contributes to afforestation in Croatia but also encourages all of us to actively participate in environmental preservation. Every visitor participating in this action has the opportunity to leave their mark and contribute to a better and healthier planet.

Environment & sustainability desk

The Environment and Sustainable Development Desk brings together authors and volunteers who have spent decades living close to nature, exploring ecological processes, and observing the changes that shape our planet. Behind every text stands the experience of people whose professional and personal paths have intertwined with topics such as environmental protection, renewable resources, climate challenges, and sustainable living. We write from the field, from conversations with researchers and activists, from our own notes and long-term observation, striving to ensure that each publication is both verified, understandable, and useful.

Our work is not based on superficial trends but on a real understanding of natural processes and the responsibility humans have toward the space in which they live. The stories we tell are created slowly, with much reflection, because we do not view ecology as a niche or a technical field but as a part of life that concerns all of us. Over the years, the editorial team has been following how the environment reacts to human habits, how communities introduce sustainable models, and how innovations merge with respect for natural cycles. We aim to bring all this closer to the reader in a form that is not dry but relatable and real.

We choose topics with particular care—topics that open space for understanding rather than fear. We write about climate change, but also about the people who find solutions. We speak about endangered natural areas, but also about those who restore them. We highlight the importance of sustainable development, but without grand words—preferring to share concrete experiences, small steps, and good practices we have witnessed during years of cooperation with ecological initiatives and experts.

Our goal is to build trust, not sensation. That is why we strive to ensure that every text is grounded in verified information and thoughtful journalistic work. We want to offer readers content that not only informs but also encourages understanding, responsibility, and care for the space we leave to future generations. The Environment and Sustainable Development Desk remains dedicated to this mission: to create content that reflects genuine passion for nature and contributes, even in a small way, to the greater picture—preserving what we all share.
