In the heart of the beautiful nature of Opatija, among centuries-old trees and forest trails winding above the coast, more and more people find a refuge for mind and body. Sunday, March 30, 2025, is reserved for a unique experience of inner balance and connection with nature – a free mindfulness workshop on the magical promenade Carmen Sylva. The gathering of participants begins at 10:00 in front of the Opatija market, followed by a gentle walk to the starting point of this therapeutic activity in a natural setting.

Relaxation with the chirping of birds and the rustle of leaves

This unique workshop is organized within the framework of the comprehensive project “Opatija – oasis of health and wellness”, which combines the natural beauties of Opatija with modern approaches to healthy living. The promenade Carmen Sylva, known for its historical and landscape value, is an ideal stage for mindfulness – a practice that teaches an individual how to consciously slow down, feel their own body and thoughts, and fully dedicate themselves to the present moment.

The workshop is led by the esteemed psychotherapist Nataša Jelenić Herega, an expert with extensive experience in psychological counseling and therapy. Accredited by the European Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, she has been helping people overcome stress, anxiety, and depression for years through various methods of working with the mind and emotions.

What exactly is mindfulness?

Mindfulness, or focused awareness, is a method that has deep roots in Buddhist meditation, but today is also recognized in Western psychology as an extremely useful practice for mental health. Scientific studies confirm its effectiveness in reducing stress, improving concentration and emotional stability, as well as in preventing psychosomatic illnesses. In this program, participants will get acquainted with the basics of conscious breathing, observing bodily sensations, listening to the sounds of nature, and moving meditation – techniques that can be applied daily in the fight against stress.

Creating Healthy Habits with Nature as an Ally

The workshop particularly emphasizes connecting with nature, which further deepens the mindfulness experience. In the wooded setting of Carmen Sylva, without the noise of cars and urban hustle, participants can once again feel what it means to live in harmony with themselves and the world around them. The program is designed to be accessible to everyone – regardless of age or previous experience with meditation or similar practices.

Participants are advised to bring comfortable sportswear, footwear suitable for walking on forest paths, and a mat or light blanket for sitting on the ground. Registration is mandatory, and it can be completed no later than 24 hours before the start of the workshop via the phone number 051 535 271 or the email tic@visitOpatija.com.

Additional Dates and Locations for a New Dose of Peace

For those who miss this date, the good news is that the workshops will continue in the coming months. The next opportunity to participate will be on April 27 in the tranquil setting of Margarita Park, while on May 11 the program will be held again on the promenade Carmen Sylva. Each location offers a specific atmosphere and visual inspiration, thereby enriching the overall experience and encouraging a deeper immersion in the practice of mindful presence.

Tourism desk

Our Travel Desk was born out of a long-standing passion for travel, discovering new places, and serious journalism. Behind every article stand people who have been living tourism for decades – as travelers, tourism workers, guides, hosts, editors, and reporters. For more than thirty years, destinations, seasonal trends, infrastructure development, changes in travelers’ habits, and everything that turns a trip into an experience – and not just a ticket and an accommodation reservation – have been closely followed. These experiences are transformed into articles conceived as a companion to the reader: honest, informed, and always on the traveler’s side.

At the Travel Desk, we write from the perspective of someone who has truly walked the cobblestones of old towns, taken local buses, waited for the ferry in peak season, and searched for a hidden café in a small alley far from the postcards. Every destination is observed from multiple angles – how travelers experience it, what the locals say about it, what stories are hidden in museums and monuments, but also what the real quality of accommodation, beaches, transport links, and amenities is. Instead of generic descriptions, the focus is on concrete advice, real impressions, and details that are hard to find in official brochures.

Special attention is given to conversations with restaurateurs, private accommodation hosts, local guides, tourism workers, and people who make a living from travelers, as well as those who are only just trying to develop lesser-known destinations. Through such conversations, stories arise that do not show only the most famous attractions but also the rhythm of everyday life, habits, local cuisine, customs, and small rituals that make every place unique. The Travel Desk strives to record this layer of reality and convey it in articles that connect facts with emotion.

The content does not stop at classic travelogues. It also covers topics such as sustainable tourism, off-season travel, safety on the road, responsible behavior towards the local community and nature, as well as practical aspects like public transport, prices, recommended neighborhoods to stay in, and getting your bearings on the ground. Every article goes through a phase of research, fact-checking, and editing to ensure that the information is accurate, clear, and applicable in real situations – from a short weekend trip to a longer stay in a country or city.

The goal of the Travel Desk is that, after reading an article, the reader feels as if they have spoken to someone who has already been there, tried everything, and is now honestly sharing what is worth seeing, what to skip, and where those moments are hidden that turn a trip into a memory. That is why every new story is built slowly and carefully, with respect for the place it is about and for the people who will choose their next destination based on these words.
