Rijeka once again became the center of children's imagination and joy on February 15, 2025, thanks to the 28th Children's Carnival Parade. This event brought together more than 6,700 youngsters from various parts of Croatia, who delighted numerous visitors with their colorful costumes and lively performances.
Diversity of Participants and Creative Masks
The parade featured 70 masquerade groups, including four allegorical floats. In addition to local participants from the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, youngsters from Zagreb, Zagreb County, Sisak-Moslavina County, and Istria County joined in. This diversity contributed to the richness and vibrancy of the event, highlighting the importance of preserving carnival tradition and customs.
Program and Parade Route
The parade began at 1 PM at the Karolina Riječka Gate, led by Meštar Sandi, Kraljica Riječkog karnevala Nora Marčelja, and the mayor of Rijeka, Marko Filipović. The masquerade column moved along the main city promenade, Korzo, all the way to Export Delte, where the youngest participants enjoyed delicious donuts with chocolate and marmalade.
Accompanying Attractions and Media Coverage
Before the parade started, at 12 PM, an entertainment program was held on the main stage at Korzo, featuring the First Rijeka Majorettes and the Children's Choir "Male tratinčice". For those who could not attend the event live, a broadcast was provided through local media and official websites, allowing everyone to be part of this celebration.
Carnival Tradition and the Significance of the Event
The Children's Carnival Parade serves as an introduction to the rich program of the Rijeka Carnival, which is being held for the 42nd time this year. This event is not only an opportunity for fun but also an important part of the city's cultural identity, fostering tradition and encouraging unity among different generations and communities.
Community Preparations and Efforts
Organizing such a large event requires months of dedicated work by numerous volunteers, parents, caregivers, and teachers. Their efforts are evident in every detail – from creating costumes to devising choreographies – ensuring that each group presents its unique story and contributes to the overall experience of the carnival.
Impact on the Local Community and Tourism
The Rijeka Carnival, including the Children's Carnival Parade, significantly contributes to promoting the city as a tourist destination. Every year, it attracts thousands of visitors from both within the country and abroad, which positively affects the local economy and strengthens Rijeka's cultural image on the international stage.
