Traditional celebration of Ivanje in Sveti Ivan Dobrinjski

In the heart of the Dobrinj area, in the picturesque village of Sveti Ivan Dobrinjski, this Saturday, June 21, is reserved for one of the most anticipated local festivals – the celebration of Ivanje. This is a traditional folk festival organized on the occasion of the day of the patron saint of the village, St. John the Baptist. This festival represents a perfect blend of tradition, spirituality, community, and great fun, attracting an increasing number of visitors year after year. The program begins in the evening, specifically at 8:00 PM, when locals and their guests will gather to celebrate this important day together. Ivanje is more than an ordinary celebration; it is an opportunity to gather old and new friends, evoke memories and create new ones, all in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere for which island festivals are known. Visitors can expect a rich catering offer with local specialties and indigenous wines, which is an indispensable part of every true Kvarner festival. The popular band "Cukar i kafe" is in charge of the musical part of the evening and raising the atmosphere to a fever pitch. Known for their incredible energy and wide repertoire that includes the biggest domestic pop-rock hits, coastal and Dalmatian songs, and unforgettable ex-YU hits, this band guarantees dancing and fun long into the night. Their goal, as they say, is to transfer pleasure and energy to the audience, and their performances are known for excellent interaction with people and creating an audiovisual spectacle. The celebration of Ivanje in Sveti Ivan Dobrinjski is therefore an event not to be missed, offering an authentic experience of local culture and tradition in the beautiful setting of this historic place in the municipality of Dobrinj.

Sports spectacle in Soline Bay: 2nd edition of the "Preplavaj valu" race

Sunday morning, June 22, brings a real treat for all lovers of sports, recreation, and the sea. Starting at 10:00 AM, the second swimming competition called "Preplavaj valu" will be held, connecting two beautiful places on the coast of Soline Bay, Čižići and Klimno. This swimming marathon, organized by the hardworking members of the Udruga sportske rekreacije Kivna and in cooperation with experienced professionals from the Triatlon klub Rival, is becoming an increasingly important sporting event on the island of Krk. Competitors will tackle a 1500-meter course, testing their limits in a unique natural environment. The race starts at the waterfront in Čižići, known for its healing mud and beautiful beaches, while the finish line is at the waterfront in Klimno, a charming tourist center with a long maritime tradition. Soline Bay provides ideal conditions for this type of competition, with calm and clear sea that allows for safe and pleasant swimming. The organizers have ensured the highest safety standards, providing an escort with a sufficient number of boats throughout the race, as well as the presence of a doctor and a lifeguard on the fastest vessel, so that all competitors feel completely safe. A special value of this event is its family character. Immediately after the main race, children's races of 25 and 50 meters will be held in Klimno, giving the youngest water sports enthusiasts the opportunity to show their skills and feel the competitive spirit. After the sporting excitement, refreshments are organized for all participants at the small-sided football field in Klimno, where they can relax and share their impressions over food and drinks prepared by the members of USR Kivna. The highlight of the day is expected around 12:00 PM, when the official announcement of the winners with the awarding of medals and appropriate prizes is scheduled. Cultural refreshment: Exhibition of Hungarian artists in Čižići

After the morning's sports activities, Sunday, June 22, continues in the spirit of culture and art. In Čižići, starting at 6:00 PM, the More Tours Čižići agency proudly opens a new exhibition, continuing its commendable mission of cultural connection between Croatia and Hungary. This time, lovers of fine art will be presented with the works of two young and talented Hungarian painters, Emese Oláh and Dóra Lili Albert. The exhibition will be set up in the space of the Kristina apartment house, at the address Čižići 307b, which is thus transformed into a unique gallery open to all visitors. The goal of this project is twofold and extremely important for the island's cultural scene. On the one hand, the intention is to present contemporary Hungarian cultural life and artistic production to the inhabitants of the island of Krk, providing them with an insight into the recent artistic trends of the neighboring country. On the other hand, the project aims to acquaint the many guests from Hungary, who traditionally visit this part of Kvarner, with the rich historical and cultural heritage of the island of Krk, thus creating bridges of friendship and understanding. Initiatives like this enrich the tourist offer of places like Čižići, giving it a deeper, cultural dimension that goes beyond the classic offer of sun and sea. It is particularly interesting that the exhibition will be open to visitors throughout the year, thus allowing guests outside the main season to enjoy the works of these promising artists. This also encourages year-round tourism, and Čižići is profiled as a place that lives and breathes art throughout all months. The opening of the exhibition is an opportunity for informal socializing with the artists and organizers and for enjoying art in a pleasant, summer atmosphere.

Our Travel Desk was born out of a long-standing passion for travel, discovering new places, and serious journalism. Behind every article stand people who have been living tourism for decades – as travelers, tourism workers, guides, hosts, editors, and reporters. For more than thirty years, destinations, seasonal trends, infrastructure development, changes in travelers’ habits, and everything that turns a trip into an experience – and not just a ticket and an accommodation reservation – have been closely followed. These experiences are transformed into articles conceived as a companion to the reader: honest, informed, and always on the traveler’s side.

At the Travel Desk, we write from the perspective of someone who has truly walked the cobblestones of old towns, taken local buses, waited for the ferry in peak season, and searched for a hidden café in a small alley far from the postcards. Every destination is observed from multiple angles – how travelers experience it, what the locals say about it, what stories are hidden in museums and monuments, but also what the real quality of accommodation, beaches, transport links, and amenities is. Instead of generic descriptions, the focus is on concrete advice, real impressions, and details that are hard to find in official brochures.

Special attention is given to conversations with restaurateurs, private accommodation hosts, local guides, tourism workers, and people who make a living from travelers, as well as those who are only just trying to develop lesser-known destinations. Through such conversations, stories arise that do not show only the most famous attractions but also the rhythm of everyday life, habits, local cuisine, customs, and small rituals that make every place unique. The Travel Desk strives to record this layer of reality and convey it in articles that connect facts with emotion.

The content does not stop at classic travelogues. It also covers topics such as sustainable tourism, off-season travel, safety on the road, responsible behavior towards the local community and nature, as well as practical aspects like public transport, prices, recommended neighborhoods to stay in, and getting your bearings on the ground. Every article goes through a phase of research, fact-checking, and editing to ensure that the information is accurate, clear, and applicable in real situations – from a short weekend trip to a longer stay in a country or city.

The goal of the Travel Desk is that, after reading an article, the reader feels as if they have spoken to someone who has already been there, tried everything, and is now honestly sharing what is worth seeing, what to skip, and where those moments are hidden that turn a trip into a memory. That is why every new story is built slowly and carefully, with respect for the place it is about and for the people who will choose their next destination based on these words.
