The end of August is approaching, but Poreč is not letting up in its efforts to provide visitors and residents with unforgettable summer experiences. The last week of this month brings a real explosion of culture, entertainment, and sports, turning the city into a dynamic open-air stage where art, music, and tradition intertwine at every step. The festive spirit of the Poreč Summer reaches its peak, offering a diverse program that satisfies all tastes – from those seeking quiet contemplation with light installations and classical music to adrenaline junkies and street art lovers. Through the remaining days of August, the city's streets, squares, and parks become the scene of events that celebrate life, creativity, and the rich history of this Istrian pearl.
A Mystical Forest in the Heart of the City
One of the most anticipated events took place last night, August 25th, when Olga Ban Park was once again transformed into the magical Mystic Forest. This unique evening program, which has already won the hearts of a large audience, offered a suggestive walk through an environment that blurs the lines between the real and the imaginary. Starting at 9 PM, visitors immersed themselves in a world of dance performances, mesmerizing light installations, and carefully selected music. The stage effects, harmonized with the natural surroundings of the park, created a surreal experience, leading the audience on a journey through light, sound, and nature. The aim of this program is to create an experience for all senses, where the mystical landscape, ambient music, and magical costumes of the performers create an unforgettable atmosphere of merging art and nature, offering an escape from everyday life into a fairytale scene right by the sea.
Street Art Takes Over the City Views
Also last night, August 25th, the jubilee 25th edition of Street Art Poreč began, a festival that celebrates street art in all its forms. Until August 30th, the city streets, squares, and coastline will become a canvas and stage for numerous local and foreign artists. This festival brings a breath of contemporary art directly to the people, revitalizing public spaces and encouraging interaction between artists and the audience. During the six festival days, visitors will have the opportunity to witness as many as 22 different performances. The program is extremely rich and diverse, including musical performances, dance performances, visual art interventions, creative installations, audiovisual projections, circus acts, and various workshops. This year, the festival is expanding to new, attractive locations such as Peškera Bay, Fran Supil Square, and the promenade behind the Palazzo Hotel, further emphasizing the connection between art and the urban fabric of the city. A detailed schedule and all information about the performers are available on the official websites of the Public Open University and on their social media profiles.
Musical Rhythms Under the Starry Sky
Today, on Tuesday, August 26th, the musical magic moves to the main city square. The Music on the Square program continues on Freedom Square, bringing an evening filled with live music performed by talented local musicians. In the relaxed and casual atmosphere of the heart of the old town, visitors will be able to enjoy pleasant summer rhythms. This event provides the perfect musical backdrop for an evening walk through the city, relaxing on the terraces of nearby cafes and restaurants, or simply surrendering to the music under the open sky. The next day, on Wednesday, August 27th, starting at 9 PM, all lovers of a relaxing atmosphere by the sea are invited to Marina Poreč for another edition of the Sunset Vibes Poreč program. This Wednesday, a local music duo will be in charge of creating a special atmosphere, whose rhythms will perfectly complement the authentic and relaxing ambiance of the sunset over the marina. The program is designed as an ideal end to a day spent at the beach, offering visitors moments of relaxation with good sound and a beautiful view of the sea.
Tastes and History of Istria
Thursday, August 28th, is reserved for lovers of gastronomy and tradition. On Freedom Square, from 9 AM to 8 PM, a Review of Istrian autochthonous products will be held. This is an excellent opportunity for all visitors to explore the richness of Istrian flavors in one place. Local family farms will present their best domestic products, and visitors will be able to taste and buy delicacies such as olive oil, cheese, prosciutto, honey, wine, and various other processed goods. On the same day, Thursday, August 28th, at 7 PM, another fascinating interpretive walk through the rich history of the city begins. Inspired by the legendary woman from Poreč from the song "La mula de Parenzo," this tour takes visitors on a unique journey through time. Participants will have the opportunity to experience Poreč in a completely new way, through stories and anecdotes that bring the past to life. The walk is free, but due to great interest, prior reservation is mandatory. You can register by phone at 091 432 3745, by e-mail at lamuladeparenzo@muzejporec.hr, or in person at the "La mula de Parenzo" Visitor Center.
From Classical Music to Sporting Challenges
Friday, August 29th, brings a double program. In the magnificent ambiance of the Euphrasian Basilica, a UNESCO-protected monument, the prestigious cycle Concerts in the Euphrasiana continues. This Friday, the audience can expect a special musical experience – a performance by the participants of RHAPSODY GUITAR, the Summer Guitar School led by the esteemed Xhevdeta Sahatxhije. This school brings together young and talented guitarists of different ages and nationalities, and their concert in the Euphrasiana represents the crown of their summer training. Tickets for this unique event are available through the reservation system of the Public Open University Poreč or at the entrance to the Basilica from 8 PM. On the same day, Friday, August 29th, one of the most anticipated sports and recreational events of the summer begins – the 24th edition of the Poreč Dolphin. This three-day festival of water sports, which will last until August 31st, will be held at the attractive Valamar Parentino beach. The event has grown from a swimming marathon into a true festival that celebrates the sea and sports activities. The central event is still the swimming marathon, with sections adapted for everyone – from 500 meters for beginners to a challenging 5,000 meters for experienced swimmers. But the program is much richer and includes aquathlon (a combination of swimming and running), an exciting water polo tournament, SUP and kayak races, sailing competitions, and the opportunity for scuba diving. The organizers have also prepared an extremely rich accompanying program for all generations: creative and sports workshops for children, demonstrations of sports skills, fun corners, and a free water park. More than 2,000 participants from Croatia and abroad are expected, and registrations are still open on the official website www.poreckidelfin.com.
