One of the most anticipated summer events in the heart of Kvarner, a recognizable jewel of the cultural and tourist offer, this year enters its jubilee, tenth edition. This is the Okolotorno event, which has been reviving the historical core of Novi Vinodolski for a whole decade, turning its stone streets and squares into a living stage of rich history, tradition, and authentic coastal spirit. Through ten years of encounters, smiles, songs, and creating unforgettable memories, Okolotorno has become synonymous with summer refreshment that connects generations and celebrates the heritage of this region. For all those looking for an ideal place for a holiday, it is also worth exploring accommodation in Novi Vinodolski.

This unique event, which over the years has grown into an indispensable part of summer evenings, will traditionally be held on Wednesdays this year as well. Reserve your calendars for July 9, July 16, July 30, and August 13. On each of the mentioned Wednesdays, from 7:30 PM to 11:30 PM, the old town of Novi Vinodolski will transform into a vibrant time machine. The stone alleys, known as "kale," will become a meeting place of past and present, filled with Mediterranean melodies, the intoxicating scents of local gastronomic specialties, the sounds of traditional instruments, and a playful atmosphere that delights both locals and numerous tourists year after year.

A Grand Opening to Remember

The jubilee tenth anniversary will be marked by a particularly festive and content-rich opening scheduled for this evening, Wednesday, July 9. The organizers have prepared a program that will surely exceed all expectations and set high standards for the rest of the summer. An extra dose of warmth and hospitality at the very opening will be brought by the valuable members of the Udruga 51+. They will welcome and treat all visitors at the central Frankopan Square with authentic local sweets and traditional rakija, providing a perfect introduction to an evening filled with coastal charm. But that is just the beginning. A special visual and artistic touch to the evening will be given by a spectacular acrobatic performance. At exactly 8:30 PM, Frankopan Square will become a magical open-air stage, and the stunning skills of the acrobats will bring the historic walls to life and create an atmosphere of a true spectacle that will leave both young and old breathless.

A Soundtrack that Tells the Story of the Mediterranean

Music is the soul of the Okolotorno event, and this year the soundtrack will be richer than ever. As many as four music ensembles will be in charge of creating a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere throughout the entire old town core. Every corner will exude a special musical style, inviting visitors to walk, pause, dance, and surrender to the rhythms that celebrate life and summer. The melodic journey will be provided by Trio Nebuloza, Trio Fumić, the Tamburaški sastav Novi, and the beloved Klapa Kala. Their performances, from traditional klapa songs that touch the heart to cheerful coastal melodies, will create a unique musical tapestry that will stretch through the narrow streets and small squares, making every step through the old town a special experience. This musical diversity ensures that everyone finds something to their taste and takes with them the sounds of summer in Novi Vinodolski.

Living History on the Streets of the Old Town

Okolotorno is not just music and food; it is also a deep dive into the rich history of the city. During their walk, visitors will have a unique opportunity to meet face to face with the great figures who have marked the history of Novi Vinodolski and Croatia. The costumed characters of the famous Frankopans, the family whose castle is still the dominant feature of the city and the place where the Vinodol Law was passed, will proudly walk the streets. They will be accompanied by Ban Ivan Mažuranić, a prominent Croatian politician and poet, and his granddaughter Ivana Brlić Mažuranić, a celebrated writer whose stories marked the childhoods of many. These encounters with history provide not only an opportunity for photos but also for education and a reminder of the importance of cultural heritage. Additional authenticity to the overall impression will be given by the city guard, which will vigilantly watch over one of the entrances to the old town core, just like in ancient times. A special charm and a touch of tradition will be brought by the members of the local KUD Ilija Dorčić, who, dressed in lavish Novi Vinodolski folk costumes, will present the richness of folklore heritage with song and dance. To make the memories of this magical evening permanent, specially arranged photo corners will be set up throughout the Old Town, ideal places for creating perfect summer photos with a touch of history.

The event is designed to provide content for the entire family. The youngest visitors will surely be delighted by the face painting corner, where they can transform into their favorite fantasy characters. While some are having fun, others will be able to enjoy Browse and shopping at the stalls of valuable craftsmen, artists, and artisans. The old town core will come alive in the variety of colors and shapes of their unique handicrafts, from jewelry and souvenirs to art paintings and utilitarian objects, offering a perfect opportunity to find an original gift or a summer souvenir. Tourism desk

Our Travel Desk was born out of a long-standing passion for travel, discovering new places, and serious journalism. Behind every article stand people who have been living tourism for decades – as travelers, tourism workers, guides, hosts, editors, and reporters. For more than thirty years, destinations, seasonal trends, infrastructure development, changes in travelers’ habits, and everything that turns a trip into an experience – and not just a ticket and an accommodation reservation – have been closely followed. These experiences are transformed into articles conceived as a companion to the reader: honest, informed, and always on the traveler’s side.

At the Travel Desk, we write from the perspective of someone who has truly walked the cobblestones of old towns, taken local buses, waited for the ferry in peak season, and searched for a hidden café in a small alley far from the postcards. Every destination is observed from multiple angles – how travelers experience it, what the locals say about it, what stories are hidden in museums and monuments, but also what the real quality of accommodation, beaches, transport links, and amenities is. Instead of generic descriptions, the focus is on concrete advice, real impressions, and details that are hard to find in official brochures.

Special attention is given to conversations with restaurateurs, private accommodation hosts, local guides, tourism workers, and people who make a living from travelers, as well as those who are only just trying to develop lesser-known destinations. Through such conversations, stories arise that do not show only the most famous attractions but also the rhythm of everyday life, habits, local cuisine, customs, and small rituals that make every place unique. The Travel Desk strives to record this layer of reality and convey it in articles that connect facts with emotion.

The content does not stop at classic travelogues. It also covers topics such as sustainable tourism, off-season travel, safety on the road, responsible behavior towards the local community and nature, as well as practical aspects like public transport, prices, recommended neighborhoods to stay in, and getting your bearings on the ground. Every article goes through a phase of research, fact-checking, and editing to ensure that the information is accurate, clear, and applicable in real situations – from a short weekend trip to a longer stay in a country or city.

The goal of the Travel Desk is that, after reading an article, the reader feels as if they have spoken to someone who has already been there, tried everything, and is now honestly sharing what is worth seeing, what to skip, and where those moments are hidden that turn a trip into a memory. That is why every new story is built slowly and carefully, with respect for the place it is about and for the people who will choose their next destination based on these words.
