After an exceptionally successful premiere edition that delighted numerous visitors, the Hook & Cook festival is returning to the very heart of the Istrian peninsula, bringing with it a unique fusion of continental and coastal spirit. On Saturday, August 16, 2025, the idyllic location of Bare in Cerovlje will once again become the epicenter of top-notch gastronomy, diverse music, and relaxed socializing. This event, which in a unique way combines seemingly incompatible worlds – the peace of green hills and the tastes of the sea – promises an unforgettable experience for all generations, transforming the picturesque landscape into a magical stage where scents, flavors, and sounds merge into a perfect summer symphony. The festival program begins at 5:00 PM, giving visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in an evening filled with authentic experiences.

The Confluence of Mountains and Sea in the Heart of Istria

Central Istria, known for its hilly landscape, medieval towns, and rich eno-gastronomic tradition, will once again show its ability to embrace something different. The Hook & Cook festival skillfully bridges the geographical and cultural distance between blue and green Istria. The location of Bare in Cerovlje, a complex of seven lakes created by the excavation of clay for a former brickyard, provides the perfect backdrop for such an event. Today, these bodies of water, cared for by the Pazinčica Sports Fishing Society, are a true little paradise for anglers and nature lovers. Surrounded by lush greenery, Bare offers a sense of tranquility and an escape from the summer crowds, creating an ambiance where the spirit of the sea meets the peace of untouched nature. It is this synergy that makes this festival special – it brings the scents and tastes of fish specialties to a landscape traditionally associated with the fruits of the earth. All who decide to visit this event and perhaps extend their stay can look for ideal accommodation in Cerovlje and the surrounding area to fully experience the charms of inland Istria.

The Gastronomic Heart of the Festival - Fish Paprikash Cooking Competition

The central pillar of the festival is undoubtedly its gastronomic offer, and the crown of the evening will be an exciting culinary competition in preparing fish paprikash. Under the expert guidance of the members of the Pazinčica Sports Fishing Society, guardians of the Cerovlje lakes and expert connoisseurs of freshwater fish, teams will cross their cooking spoons and show their skills in preparing this spicy specialty. A true rhapsody of flavors is expected, where fresh, local ingredients will be used, and the aromas that will spread from the competition stands will surely entice visitors. This competition is not just a battle for the title of the best, but also a celebration of the tradition and fishing culture of this region. Visitors will have the opportunity not only to follow the cooking process and absorb tips from the masters but also to taste the final products, judging which paprikash has won their hearts the most. It is a unique opportunity to experience the authentic taste of fish paprikash in one place, prepared with love and passion, far from the coast, in the heart of Istria.

A Soundscape That Captivates

To make the gastronomic pleasure complete, the organizers have prepared a rich and eclectic music program that will satisfy different tastes and get the audience dancing late into the night. Three performers will take the stage at Bare in Cerovlje, guaranteeing top energy and an unforgettable atmosphere.

Dražen Turina Šajeta – The Voice of Istria and Kvarner

One of the most famous and original Croatian singer-songwriters, Dražen Turina Šajeta, brings his recognizable sound to the heart of Istria. Known for his witty and true-to-life lyrics in the Chakavian dialect, Šajeta has become a kind of musical chronicler of the life of the common man from Kvarner and Istria. His hits like "Košulja plava," "Party za ekipu," and "Moji koraki" have become part of the general culture, and his live performances are always filled with energy, laughter, and interaction with the audience. A native of Rijeka with an Opatija address, Šajeta is a master at creating atmosphere and connecting with people, and his performance will be a real treat for all generations.

Grupa Febra – A Musical Journey Through Genres

From Umag comes Grupa Febra, a band founded in 2013, which has conquered numerous stages throughout Croatia and beyond with its talent and passion for music. Their musical expression is a skillful mix of different styles – from pop and jazz, through soul and blues, to energetic rockabilly. Their repertoire consists of covers of foreign hits from the golden era of the 50s and 60s, as well as modern songs to which they give their unique touch. With their performance, Febra creates a sophisticated, yet danceable atmosphere, ideal for a summer evening under the stars. Their ability to travel through different musical decades and styles guarantees that everyone will find something for themselves in their performance.

DJ Nemanja – Rhythms That Move the World

DJ Nemanja is in charge of maintaining the dance energy throughout the evening. Behind this name is the Pula-based author and artist Luka Šipetić, whose music project "nemanja" has gained cult status on the regional scene. His sets are a journey through world music, a blend of Eastern and Anatolian funk, psychedelic grooves, and never-before-released musical gems. His vision of dance music is unique, mantric, and incredibly infectious. DJ Nemanja will take visitors on a sound journey that erases borders and invites pure dance pleasure, ensuring that the rhythm never stops for a moment.

Tourism desk

Our Travel Desk was born out of a long-standing passion for travel, discovering new places, and serious journalism. Behind every article stand people who have been living tourism for decades – as travelers, tourism workers, guides, hosts, editors, and reporters. For more than thirty years, destinations, seasonal trends, infrastructure development, changes in travelers’ habits, and everything that turns a trip into an experience – and not just a ticket and an accommodation reservation – have been closely followed. These experiences are transformed into articles conceived as a companion to the reader: honest, informed, and always on the traveler’s side.

At the Travel Desk, we write from the perspective of someone who has truly walked the cobblestones of old towns, taken local buses, waited for the ferry in peak season, and searched for a hidden café in a small alley far from the postcards. Every destination is observed from multiple angles – how travelers experience it, what the locals say about it, what stories are hidden in museums and monuments, but also what the real quality of accommodation, beaches, transport links, and amenities is. Instead of generic descriptions, the focus is on concrete advice, real impressions, and details that are hard to find in official brochures.

Special attention is given to conversations with restaurateurs, private accommodation hosts, local guides, tourism workers, and people who make a living from travelers, as well as those who are only just trying to develop lesser-known destinations. Through such conversations, stories arise that do not show only the most famous attractions but also the rhythm of everyday life, habits, local cuisine, customs, and small rituals that make every place unique. The Travel Desk strives to record this layer of reality and convey it in articles that connect facts with emotion.

The content does not stop at classic travelogues. It also covers topics such as sustainable tourism, off-season travel, safety on the road, responsible behavior towards the local community and nature, as well as practical aspects like public transport, prices, recommended neighborhoods to stay in, and getting your bearings on the ground. Every article goes through a phase of research, fact-checking, and editing to ensure that the information is accurate, clear, and applicable in real situations – from a short weekend trip to a longer stay in a country or city.

The goal of the Travel Desk is that, after reading an article, the reader feels as if they have spoken to someone who has already been there, tried everything, and is now honestly sharing what is worth seeing, what to skip, and where those moments are hidden that turn a trip into a memory. That is why every new story is built slowly and carefully, with respect for the place it is about and for the people who will choose their next destination based on these words.
