In the heart of Istria, in the idyllic town of Sveti Petar u Šumi, one of the most anticipated gastronomic events of the year will take place again – the international fair "S klobasicom u EU". This renowned festival of traditional cured meat delicacies attracts numerous visitors, lovers of authentic flavors, and top-notch gastronomic offerings every year. The fair will be held from March 14th to 16th, 2025, and visitors can expect a rich program that includes tastings, competitions, entertaining activities, and a musical spectacle.

Gastronomic Rhapsody in Sveti Petar u Šumi

Among the main attractions of the fair are numerous producers of sausages, kulen, pancetta, and other traditional cured meat products from Croatia and the region. Visitors will have the opportunity to taste and purchase the best delicacies that have won prestigious awards and recognitions. In addition to cured meat specialties, a variety of domestic products such as cheeses, honey, wine, brandy, and homemade sweets that preserve authentic recipes can also be found at the fair.

The gastronomic offering of the fair will not stop at just exhibition stands. Specially prepared menus as part of the fair will give visitors the opportunity to enjoy the richness of Istrian cuisine. Traditional dishes, such as Istrian maneštra, sauerkraut with sausages, homemade fuži with boškarin sauce, and delicious roasted sausages, will be served in the fair's restaurant section. The youngest will be able to enjoy simpler dishes like hot dogs in a bun, while adults will have the opportunity to taste top-quality wines from local winemakers.

Competitions and Interactive Activities for All Ages

The "S klobasicom u EU" fair is also known for its attractive competitions that generate great interest every year. This year, special emphasis has been placed on the tenth world championship in stuffing sausages in a casing, an old technique of filling sausages with the help of willow twigs, which revives tradition and showcases the skill of former master butchers.

In addition, a second world championship in the making of Istrian sausage will take place, in which ten teams will measure their culinary skills. Competitors will have to prove their knowledge in selecting the right ingredients, preparation techniques, and shaping the perfect sausage.

For the youngest visitors, an educational and entertaining activity called "Sausage Hunt" has been organized, in which children will be able to learn interesting facts about Istrian cured meat products through an interactive quest and problem-solving tasks. Those a bit older will be able to test their palate in the game "Guess the Sausage", where they will have to identify different types of Istrian sausages based on taste.

The Knight Order of Sausages and the Fair Queen Selection

The fair in Sveti Petar u Šumi is also known for its special ceremonies. One of them is the traditional induction of new members into the Knight Order of Sausages, where, with a symbolic oath-taking ceremony, tribute is paid every year to prominent lovers and promoters of sausage-making traditions. Additionally, the fair will host a "Fair Queen" selection, with the title awarded to the person whose work and commitment has contributed to the preservation of Istrian gastronomy and tradition.

Musical Spectacle and Entertainment Program

In addition to gastronomic delights, the fair also brings a rich entertainment program. On Friday, March 14th, the evening concert will be opened by the popular Funbox band, and after them, the legendary Željko Bebek will take the stage, whose hits guarantee a top-notch atmosphere. The Saturday evening brings another treat for music lovers – an energetic performance by the Night Express band and singer Luke Basija, who will get the audience dancing with their hits.

During the day, various animations, tastings, and educational activities will take place at the fair, further enriching the visitors' experience. A large number of guests from all parts of Croatia and the region is expected, and the organizers state that this year's edition will be one of the most magnificent so far.

Tourism desk

Our Travel Desk was born out of a long-standing passion for travel, discovering new places, and serious journalism. Behind every article stand people who have been living tourism for decades – as travelers, tourism workers, guides, hosts, editors, and reporters. For more than thirty years, destinations, seasonal trends, infrastructure development, changes in travelers’ habits, and everything that turns a trip into an experience – and not just a ticket and an accommodation reservation – have been closely followed. These experiences are transformed into articles conceived as a companion to the reader: honest, informed, and always on the traveler’s side.

At the Travel Desk, we write from the perspective of someone who has truly walked the cobblestones of old towns, taken local buses, waited for the ferry in peak season, and searched for a hidden café in a small alley far from the postcards. Every destination is observed from multiple angles – how travelers experience it, what the locals say about it, what stories are hidden in museums and monuments, but also what the real quality of accommodation, beaches, transport links, and amenities is. Instead of generic descriptions, the focus is on concrete advice, real impressions, and details that are hard to find in official brochures.

Special attention is given to conversations with restaurateurs, private accommodation hosts, local guides, tourism workers, and people who make a living from travelers, as well as those who are only just trying to develop lesser-known destinations. Through such conversations, stories arise that do not show only the most famous attractions but also the rhythm of everyday life, habits, local cuisine, customs, and small rituals that make every place unique. The Travel Desk strives to record this layer of reality and convey it in articles that connect facts with emotion.

The content does not stop at classic travelogues. It also covers topics such as sustainable tourism, off-season travel, safety on the road, responsible behavior towards the local community and nature, as well as practical aspects like public transport, prices, recommended neighborhoods to stay in, and getting your bearings on the ground. Every article goes through a phase of research, fact-checking, and editing to ensure that the information is accurate, clear, and applicable in real situations – from a short weekend trip to a longer stay in a country or city.

The goal of the Travel Desk is that, after reading an article, the reader feels as if they have spoken to someone who has already been there, tried everything, and is now honestly sharing what is worth seeing, what to skip, and where those moments are hidden that turn a trip into a memory. That is why every new story is built slowly and carefully, with respect for the place it is about and for the people who will choose their next destination based on these words.
