In Zadar, a city of rich history and invaluable cultural heritage, on March 20, 2025, a ceremonial presentation of the innovative tourist project "Welcome Bed and Breakfast" was held, which brought together numerous actors from the family accommodation sector, local producers, lessors and representatives of tourist communities from the entire Zadar County. The event took place at the hotel Kolovare, one of the recognizable symbols of Zadar tourism, and marked an important step in improving the quality and offer of breakfast accommodation in this area.

A New Era in Private Accommodation

"Welcome B&B" is part of the broader "Welcome" concept – a quality mark that the Tourist Board of Zadar County has been developing in recent years to promote the professionalization of family accommodation and its alignment with the latest standards of hospitality and tourist offer. The sub-brand "Bed and Breakfast" focuses on the added value of accommodation that offers breakfast, highlighting the local gastronomic and cultural offer.

The project aims to standardize and highlight facilities that offer a personalized breakfast service with accommodation, whether in the form of traditional serving, self-service concept or a combination with local farm products. In this way, synergy is created between tourism and agriculture, enriching the guest experience and contributing to the development of rural areas.

Education and Promotion to Strengthen Competitiveness

At the workshop, numerous lessors and owners of family farms (OPG) gathered who had the opportunity to listen to lectures by experienced tourism experts. Special attention was paid to topics such as self-service breakfast, the importance of the aesthetic impression of the space, advice for creating menus based on seasonal ingredients and preparation for the arrival of organized study groups and digital nomadism. The lecturers also presented methods for self-evaluation of accommodation through the Welcome system, as well as the possibilities of branding facilities within the B&B segment.

It was emphasized that in modern tourism the quality of content and differentiation are key to success. Guests increasingly appreciate a personalized approach, a feeling of welcome and additional services that go beyond the basic function of accommodation. It is precisely such an offer that "Welcome B&B" seeks to promote, positioning Zadar County as a destination where hosts are educated, motivated and focused on excellence.

The Role of Local Products in Enriching the Tourist Experience

One of the main pillars of the project is to encourage the inclusion of local products in the everyday offer of accommodation facilities. From homemade bread, honey, olive oil, cured meat delicacies to fresh fruits and vegetables from nearby family farms – these are all elements that create an unforgettable experience for the guest. Guests, especially from Western European countries, increasingly seek precisely such a local and sustainable gastronomic offer, which further confirms the validity of the "Welcome B&B" strategy.

Such an approach creates added value not only for the guest, but also for the local community, as it ensures the placement of products from small producers, thereby strengthening the local economy and preserving the authenticity of the region.

Extension of the Tourist Season – the Main Strategic Goal

One of the more important goals of the project is to attract guests during periods outside the main season. Accommodations with breakfast, especially those with additional amenities and a clear quality mark, have the potential to fill capacities in spring, autumn and even during winter. This allows lessors to have a more stable income, and the region to have a more balanced tourist development throughout the year.

Tourism desk

Our Travel Desk was born out of a long-standing passion for travel, discovering new places, and serious journalism. Behind every article stand people who have been living tourism for decades – as travelers, tourism workers, guides, hosts, editors, and reporters. For more than thirty years, destinations, seasonal trends, infrastructure development, changes in travelers’ habits, and everything that turns a trip into an experience – and not just a ticket and an accommodation reservation – have been closely followed. These experiences are transformed into articles conceived as a companion to the reader: honest, informed, and always on the traveler’s side.

At the Travel Desk, we write from the perspective of someone who has truly walked the cobblestones of old towns, taken local buses, waited for the ferry in peak season, and searched for a hidden café in a small alley far from the postcards. Every destination is observed from multiple angles – how travelers experience it, what the locals say about it, what stories are hidden in museums and monuments, but also what the real quality of accommodation, beaches, transport links, and amenities is. Instead of generic descriptions, the focus is on concrete advice, real impressions, and details that are hard to find in official brochures.

Special attention is given to conversations with restaurateurs, private accommodation hosts, local guides, tourism workers, and people who make a living from travelers, as well as those who are only just trying to develop lesser-known destinations. Through such conversations, stories arise that do not show only the most famous attractions but also the rhythm of everyday life, habits, local cuisine, customs, and small rituals that make every place unique. The Travel Desk strives to record this layer of reality and convey it in articles that connect facts with emotion.

The content does not stop at classic travelogues. It also covers topics such as sustainable tourism, off-season travel, safety on the road, responsible behavior towards the local community and nature, as well as practical aspects like public transport, prices, recommended neighborhoods to stay in, and getting your bearings on the ground. Every article goes through a phase of research, fact-checking, and editing to ensure that the information is accurate, clear, and applicable in real situations – from a short weekend trip to a longer stay in a country or city.

The goal of the Travel Desk is that, after reading an article, the reader feels as if they have spoken to someone who has already been there, tried everything, and is now honestly sharing what is worth seeing, what to skip, and where those moments are hidden that turn a trip into a memory. That is why every new story is built slowly and carefully, with respect for the place it is about and for the people who will choose their next destination based on these words.
