In the elegant setting of Zagreb's Esplanade hotel, on March 26, 2025, a formal gala dinner was held to mark the presentation of the eighth edition of the international gastronomic guide Gault&Millau Croatia 2025. This prestigious event, known as "The Culinary Oscars Night", brought together 101 chefs from across Croatia, accompanied by the presence of numerous esteemed guests.
Special attention was drawn by the Zadar County, which is represented in this year's guide by an impressive 30 restaurants and popular venues (POP), which represents a significant increase compared to previous years. Furthermore, the guide also recommends eight wine tasting rooms from this region, thereby further confirming the richness of the eno-gastronomic offer of the Zadar area.
The Director of the Tourist Board of Zadar County, Hrvoje Anić, had the honor of presenting the award for the best POP of the year. This special category in the Gault&Millau guide recognizes popular places with an excellent ratio of price to quality. This year's laureate is the vegan bistro BioMania, which, after successful operations in Bol on Brač, recently opened a new restaurant in the center of Zagreb.
Within the guide, Zadar County occupies 28 pages, which attests to its growing significance in the Croatian gastronomic scene. This success is the result of the continuous efforts of the Tourist Board in branding the region as a top eno-gastro destination. The partnership with the Gault&Millau guide has enabled additional promotion of Zadar's restaurants, winemakers, and wine tasting rooms on both a national and international level.
On that occasion, Hrvoje Anić stated: "We are proud of the fact that the number of restaurants from Zadar County in the Gault&Millau guide is continuously increasing. This confirms our position as a significant eno-gastronomic region in Croatia. We are especially delighted that our winemakers and wine tasting rooms are also recognized in this edition. Our goal is to present Zadar County as a destination for sustainable tourism, promoting the Dalmatian way of life through food, combining new trends in gastronomy with the culinary tradition and customs of our region."
Among the restaurants that stood out in the guide, the restaurant Foša in Zadar holds a special place. Located within the historic walls of the 16th-century Foša harbor, this restaurant offers a modern Dalmatian cuisine with Mediterranean influences. Chef Saša Began, together with his team, creates dishes that combine traditional flavors with global gastronomic trends. Guests can enjoy an authentic atmosphere with stone walls and a wooden interior, while the terrace by the sea provides a beautiful view of the harbor.
Besides the restaurants, the guide also recognizes the quality of accommodation facilities in Zadar County. Numerous hotels and private accommodations offer top-notch service, allowing visitors to fully experience the richness of the region. From luxurious hotels in Zadar itself to charming villas and apartments along the coast, the accommodation facilities cater to various tastes and needs of guests.
The Gault&Millau Croatia 2025 guide not only promotes top-notch gastronomy, but also encourages sustainable tourism, emphasizing the importance of preserving local culture and tradition. Zadar County, with its rich history, natural beauties, and diverse eno-gastronomic offer, is undoubtedly a destination that deserves the attention of every lover of good food and wine.
