On Monday, March 24, 2025, the Gradska vijećnica Novog Vinodolskog became a center of knowledge and information for small rental providers from the area of this coastal town and its surroundings. At the educational event organized by Turistička zajednica Grada Novi Vinodolski in cooperation with the renowned family accommodation consultancy Interligo d.o.o., more space was requested, and all attendees eagerly absorbed the information that was of utmost importance for operating in an increasingly demanding tourism environment.

Great interest confirms the growing need for education

Numerous participants – from experienced hosts to those who are just entering the world of private accommodation – filled the hall to capacity, and additional chairs were quickly added to meet the needs of all interested. The interest in this topic confirms how crucial education is in modern tourism business, especially in the context of new regulations, an increasingly complex digital presence, and the desire to raise the quality of service.

Legal aspects and tax updates attracted great attention

The first part of the lecture was led by an expert in tax and legal regulations in tourism, Mrs. Meri Čizmić Kraljević. Her presentation focused on the current legal obligations that apply to small rental providers, with special emphasis on changes in tax regulations that came into effect at the beginning of this year. The attendees received clear instructions regarding the necessary documentation, submission deadlines, record keeping, and the most common administrative mistakes that can be avoided with timely information.

How to set a price and attract more guests?

After a short break, tourism consultant Anamarija Cicarelli addressed the gathered participants, detailing strategies for setting prices in the private accommodation sector. She emphasized the importance of price flexibility, especially during the pre-season and post-season, when it is possible to achieve better occupancy through discounts and special offers. It was also explained how to define minimum and maximum prices, when and why to use "last minute" or "early booking" models, and how to adjust prices for different types of guests and lengths of stay.

Digital visibility – the key to success in the online world

Ms. Cicarelli also commented on advertising through the most well-known digital platforms for accommodation reservations, such as Airbnb and Booking.com. Through concrete examples from practice, rental providers were introduced to the ways in which the algorithms of these services operate – including the importance of regularly updating the availability calendar, high-quality photos, accommodation descriptions, as well as prompt and courteous communication with potential guests.

Reviews – a tool that sells

Special attention was devoted to managing guest reviews. The lecturer emphasized that every review, whether positive or negative, provides an opportunity to improve service and further position the advertisement. The attendees learned how to respond constructively to comments, how to handle potentially unpleasant situations, and how to encourage guests to leave as many positive impressions as possible after their stay.

Interactive atmosphere and concrete practical questions

Throughout the entire duration of the education, participants had the opportunity to engage in discussion, ask questions, and receive advice regarding concrete situations they face in their business. The interactive approach and open dialogue made this education particularly valuable, as answers to dilemmas that trouble small rental providers in their daily work were received firsthand.

Development of the destination through education and cooperation

Such events not only help rental providers overcome the complexities of legal frameworks and market trends, but also significantly contribute to the development of the local tourism offer. Increasing the quality of service, better information, and the willingness to adapt are key factors for success in an increasingly competitive environment, and the joint effort of institutions and the private sector shows concrete results.

Accommodation in Novi Vinodolski – potential that is developing

Novi Vinodolski, with its rich history, Mediterranean ambiance, and attractive coastline, has been attracting numerous tourists from Croatia and abroad for years. The diversity of accommodations, from apartments and holiday houses to rooms in private accommodations, offers something for everyone. With constant investments in quality and education of rental providers, this town is becoming an increasingly competitive destination on the Adriatic tourism map. Small family units, which are often bearers of an authentic experience, increasingly recognize the importance of a professional approach – and it is precisely such education that provides them with the knowledge and confidence that lead to success.

Continuation of education – a step towards sustainable tourism

The organizers, visibly satisfied with the great interest and positive feedback, announced new dates for educational events, aiming to provide continuous support to local rental providers. The focus will continue to be on relevant and practical topics, in order to jointly improve the quality of the tourism offer, increase competitiveness, and promote the sustainability of tourism in this part of Croatia.

Tourism desk

Our Travel Desk was born out of a long-standing passion for travel, discovering new places, and serious journalism. Behind every article stand people who have been living tourism for decades – as travelers, tourism workers, guides, hosts, editors, and reporters. For more than thirty years, destinations, seasonal trends, infrastructure development, changes in travelers’ habits, and everything that turns a trip into an experience – and not just a ticket and an accommodation reservation – have been closely followed. These experiences are transformed into articles conceived as a companion to the reader: honest, informed, and always on the traveler’s side.

At the Travel Desk, we write from the perspective of someone who has truly walked the cobblestones of old towns, taken local buses, waited for the ferry in peak season, and searched for a hidden café in a small alley far from the postcards. Every destination is observed from multiple angles – how travelers experience it, what the locals say about it, what stories are hidden in museums and monuments, but also what the real quality of accommodation, beaches, transport links, and amenities is. Instead of generic descriptions, the focus is on concrete advice, real impressions, and details that are hard to find in official brochures.

Special attention is given to conversations with restaurateurs, private accommodation hosts, local guides, tourism workers, and people who make a living from travelers, as well as those who are only just trying to develop lesser-known destinations. Through such conversations, stories arise that do not show only the most famous attractions but also the rhythm of everyday life, habits, local cuisine, customs, and small rituals that make every place unique. The Travel Desk strives to record this layer of reality and convey it in articles that connect facts with emotion.

The content does not stop at classic travelogues. It also covers topics such as sustainable tourism, off-season travel, safety on the road, responsible behavior towards the local community and nature, as well as practical aspects like public transport, prices, recommended neighborhoods to stay in, and getting your bearings on the ground. Every article goes through a phase of research, fact-checking, and editing to ensure that the information is accurate, clear, and applicable in real situations – from a short weekend trip to a longer stay in a country or city.

The goal of the Travel Desk is that, after reading an article, the reader feels as if they have spoken to someone who has already been there, tried everything, and is now honestly sharing what is worth seeing, what to skip, and where those moments are hidden that turn a trip into a memory. That is why every new story is built slowly and carefully, with respect for the place it is about and for the people who will choose their next destination based on these words.
